Baer Racing sells Front disc Brake kits with 13" rotors and two-piston calipers. Their only Mopar application is '70-'74 Ebodies with disc brake spindles. There is supposed to be a difference between the 70-72 spindle and the 73-up one. Here's the question:
On a '69 B-Body with drum brakes, I will have to get a disc spindle for this brake kit to fit. Should I use a 70-74 B-body disc spindle, or could I use the ubiquitous '73 and up A-body piece? If so, which size e-body spindle does it match. The 73-up? PS anybody tried these brake kits? |

Sounds like Baer needs to provide you with some more information on what their kit fits and doesn't fit. E body knuckles are the same as B body some years, and other years they are the same as A body knuckles.
Visit http://www.ARengineering.com for an alternative kit using 13 inch rotors. |

Thanks, man,
I did some additional checking and through matching parts numbers I found that the 73 and up A-body spindle can use the same rotor as a '73-up E-body unit, I.E. the 11 3/4" unicast cop car rotor. Ergo, for the Baer kit (and any other disc brake swap for that matter) you rally can't go wrong with the late A-body knuckles in any B-body disc swap. later |

I took a quick look at some 10" disk and drum setups here. The 70-71 E body, 2 piece disk spindles have a smaller innner bearing and seal. The 72-74 B body spindles up are interchangable with the 72-76A, and 73-74E body spindle, just a little fatter casting. In each case, use the correct tie rod lever for that car. I'll bet the drum version of the tie rod lever will bolt right to the spindle. You should assemble each side with the caliper hanging behind if you use factory sway bars. The brake hose mounts to the inner fender well opposite the caliper or you will bind. Make sure youe change the master and prop valve too or they will drag.
E-Berg said the spindles on bent bar cars are too tall but they look identical to me. The brake kits seem like too much money when Mother has already provided kits in rusty abundance. |

Your scenario makes sense, Ric. I just priced out the entire swap, using '75 A Spindles and rotor mounts, brand new unicast HD 11,75" rotors, brand new calipers and hoses. Here in L.A. it comes to a little over $300 -and I don't have to go to the junkyard, since the spindle and caliper mounts are already freshly powdercoated and ready to go. Compared to the lightweight, multi-piston stuff, Ma Mopar offers great stopping power for the money.
Since this is not a race/show car, there's something to be said for simplicity, economy and parts availability. I'm going with the factory stuff for now. |

Remember icycleboy that a E body is a shorter wheelbase B body, suspension wise everything is the same in the same year, they breakdown like this66-67,68-70,71-74,75 and later,Hope this helps keep it simple.....PRO.....

Actually E bodies are the same as B bodies before 1973, after that, they are the same as A bodies(with B body torsion bars). In 1973 the B body stuff went to the isolated sub frame and the knuckles grew by 3/8 of an inch. So there are NO big bearing B body knuckles that will work on earlier B body cars. A body cars in 1973 got the big bearing disc knuckle, but they stayed with the solid K member and therefore the shorter size. 1973 to 1976 A body knuckles (identical to '73 and '74 E body knuckles) are the ones that interchange with earlier B body or E body units. Casting number for this knuckle is 3402626/3402627.

451boy so the best way to put the taller spindles in would also to put in isolaters for the k-frame to make the geometery correct? Right wouldn't this fix the improper geometery with the taller spindle??

451boy,actually most 73 cars did not have the isolated k frame, although Chrysler states it was introduced in 1973 it didnt appear untill late 73 and at only 1 plant, look for yourself under any 73 and some 74's.also the 73 and later A body does not share the same k kframe as the 73 and later B body, because the frame rail width is different from a body to b body...PRO..
