Default charger 446 buildup

I need some recommendations regarding my current setup. The car is a 68 charger,446,sixpack pistons,452 heads, stainless valves, crower dual pattern cam (226/235@.50). The intake is an edelbrock performer, headman headers(1.75),2.25compression bent exhaust.automatic tranny/2800stall,3.55 suregrip rear. Carb is a holley 750 dp. I was wondering if it would be worthwhile to upgrade to the performer rpm and 3 inch tti exhaust. How much performance can i expect to gain from this? thanks in advance.

I think it would be a worth while up grade on both. The only thing is the tti 3" could be a bit loud if you drive mostly on the street. I have the 2.5" tti on my challenger and love the sound. Not to loud, but can make people look when I get on it. I would say 3-4 tenths with the exhaust and intake, providing you can hook up.

I agree with plumebody. Your exhaust is to small for a 440 of that caliber. Also the intake is not bad but the rpm is that much better 1500 to 6500 range. Another thought would be to go with 3.90 gears for more et. It just depends if you want to drive it more or go faster.

What does the car run? I am hopefully going to also get a 68 if this deal works out. Best of luck.

The Grump!!!

The 1-3/4" primaries on your headers will help your low end but will hurt your performance in the upper RPM's. With lower (higher #'s) gears 2" primaries would be better.

Default charger 446 buildup

Thanks for the replies guys. Grump to answer your question re times; i don't know yet. The car runs great but it feels like it is being held back. I know that the exhaust is too small and i also suspect that the small runner perfomer intake is also restricting intake flow. I would like to keep the 3.55 gears for streetability. Future plans include frame connectors and adjustable snubber. I hope to get this car into the high 12's. Good luck on your aquisition.

my car is set up simular six pack pistons ported 906 heads. im using a performer prm cam 236-248 485-495 , edelbrock torker intake and 1 7/8 headers with 3.91 gears im turning 12.5 in the quarter. i plan on switching to a performer rpm intake and 3 in exhaust too, so you should be close to your gaol of 12s if it hooks

The Performer intake is a low RPM, small runner intake. You should pickup power with the RPM intake. Your 2.25" compression bent exhaust is also too small. The 3" mandrel bent TTI may be overkill on such a mild engine. Your car will probbably run nearly the same with the 2.5" mandrel bent TTI system, and it fit with more clearance and is a bit quieter.
When you put one of these exhaust systems in, clean up the cut ends (and welds) to remove obstructions. On my TTI 3" system, the crossover needed the exhaust tubing ground back to the welds to open up the crossover, and one of the exhaust header collector adaptors had a buch of extra weld inside it. A few minutes with a die grinder cleaned it all up.

Hey firefighter I think you will find a night and day difference with the intake and exhaust swap. Good luck and be sure to keep us updated.
