is this normal....??
Hi all,
Question: My /6 has a lifter knock while it's running (hot or cold, doesn't matter). Is this normal?? My dad's 340 has a knock when it's cold but then it goes away once it's warmed up... I know that either too much oil or too little oil can cause knocks but my oil level is within the range... Any help is great!! Later, Mike |

Well, If it is a Pre-81 engine with mechanical lifters, they do make a little bit of noise because of the mechanical lifters. This noise should be very faint, however.

Mike, have you adjusted the lifters lately? Usually, they are barely noticeable. You sure it's not piston noise? My old Slant had a rattle in it all the time too that I believe was the pistons slapping. It never got any worse or broke anything.
