Question Stupid Trans Question...

Ok, I'll admit, I'm not all that knowledgable when it comes to
trannys, but thats why I'm here, TO LEARN , my question is
what kinda MANUAL trans ( Not the 727 Auto ) goes with the
440 Chrysler, I'm getting a 440 pulled from a motor home
at a local junkyard, and I'm wondering if I should get the trans it
has too, but, being a motor home, I'd think it be built strictly for that heavy gear ratio. But I don't know. Is it possible and reasonable to take a trans from the junk yard and rebuild it yourself when you plan on having 600-800 hp going threw it ?
I'm 16 and need all the possible info I can get, hell, even recommended books would help. Thanks !

A-833. heavy duty versions have a 18 spline input shaft (hemi), and the others have 23 spline. All versions are very strong, except for the aluminum case overdrive units. great for mileage, but not power.

yes, rebuilding one is a great idea. If you tranny has bad gears, or not the ones that you want, I can put you in touch with a guy that has A LOT of gear sets for the 833.

Hey! Wait a min there! A 4spd in a motor home? Ok, if you say so. The A-833 is the only MoPar 4spd. If there are older ones out there, leave'em for the collector. Kesler has a 5spd kit. It uses the Tremec HD unit. Good for booooo-koooo HP.
Go to your local speed shop and pick up the how to books. There a good start. Start with the rebuild and go to the Hot Rod series. Finish up with the BIBLES from MoPar performance.
PS...make a plan and stick to it. That there be the best advice from anyone.
This place should have a book or two for your needs.

Make sure the crank is machined for a pilot bearing. I have a crank out of a 440 that is not machined for pilot bearing.
