Question sure-grip clutches

With the sure-grip out of the case and apart how do you tell if the clutch discs are bad?

they should be smooth, and not burnt. Chances are, if you have the unit apart, it's going to be better to rebuild with new clutches, and new bolts. why put it together and then have to pull it apart again.
