Default 383 block price?

Any ideas on what a 383 block is worth? Not bored. The machinest says my 60,000 mile 383 block is bad and a friend has one to sell. Don't know price yet, he wants me to look at it first. He's a 440 man.

What about the current block is 'bad'?

I wouldn't pay more than $350 for a used, running 383.

In this area you can get a complete "salvage" engine for $75-$100. They are guaranteed to be rebuildable. I would think $50 tops for a block.

Don't know how far you are from me, but I've got a 383 block I'll give you if you can come get it. I know it's .030 over now. Also, you can have the rods and a cast crank (out of a 400). Am cleaning my garage and would like the space.

Sold a complete 383 engine carb to pan for $100 a year ago, sold a 383 HP short block last week for $150 thats because it had $80.00 machine shop cost on a standard bore block. Now I need a ????? engine for my 68 Barracuda.

Default 383 block price

Thanks for the input. Your a little far away Bama. Your almost 300 miles. The machinest said one of the cylinders was bad on my 383. It came out of a 69 Dodge SW that I bought and ran on the street for about 2 months. It was a 63,000 mile all original 383 w/4 barrel. Never dreamed anything could be wrong with it, it ran great when I pulled it out. Gave the crank to friend that needed one for his 69 GTX. That was years ago and now he wont even talk to me. I can live with it if he can.
