I am building my first 360,all my other engines were 318...my question is concerning balance...my engine was originally bolted to a manual transmision, but the truck it is going into is an automatic...I have a 360 flexplat/torque converter, will I have any problems useing these??

As long as the converter has the OEM weights welded on, it should be ok.

Yes, you can use the same balancer that came with the engine.
It doesn't matter if the engine had a stick or auto. They were all balanced similarly.

You didn't mention if you had the older, original style 360 or the newer Magnum version with the individual rockers, 10-bolt valve covers, etc. Just make sure you don't swap balancers or converters between them because those are balanced differently.

Thumbs up

Should be no problem.
But there is one more variable that you should check.

I believe lock-up converters were used in some applications starting in 1978. (It may not have included 360's at first.) There should be an obvious difference between the two. I "think" the lock-ups were flat around the outer perimeter of the housing while conventional versions were rounded.

Unfortunately, I can't say for sure whether that converter is a lock-up or not. Unless another board member knows for sure, you may have to ID it at your end, perhaps at a trans shop.

If you spend the $75-$80 for the special B&M 360 flexplate you can bolt up almost any normal ballance torque converter to the 360.

Or you can just goto a tranny shop and pay them $17 to weld the 360 weight on a normal converter. Someone else got it done for $5. I looked at the flexplate when I went 360 but after paying for the plate and shipping and everything factored in it wasn't worth it for me anyway to use it.

I hear you, the cost of the B&M plate is expensive. I got it, because I had the engine ballanced with it.
My old 360 engine, I just used the 360 converter, but I never could tell if a replacement converter was ballanced exactly the same as the old one?
