Does anyone know if the 8-3/8" rear axle used in the rear of my truck is known by another designation, such as a Dana or Eaton model?
I'm trying to find out if I can get a locker for it other than the factory Sure-Grip unit, but nobody in the aftermarket seem to make anything, let alone even know about, this rear axle. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. 400Magnum |

The 8 3/8" rear is a clone of the 8 1/4", just a bit bigger. The sure grip unit interchanges between the two axle assembly's.

Christopher!
Hey, thanks for the info! That helps a lot because the 8-1/4" seems to be alot more popular. This is great! Aren't the 8-1/4" axles what they put in the Dakota? Are they used in anything else? Do you know if the gear sets between the 8-3/8" and the 8-1/4" are interchangeable too? Thanks for the help! |

The gear should work too.The Dakotas and a lot of the 318 trucks of the mid 80's use the 8 3/8.I have one in my 86 Ramcharger. It's a common rear and easy to find.
