440 questions
1. my first question is if the steel crank is no good in my 440 were cam i find a new one for a reasonable price. the thrust bearing is bad and i can litterally move the crank back and forth a good 1/8 inch.
2. since the motors coming out of the car i may as well make it faster. im hoping for mid 11's in my 70 cuda. it has 3.91 gears fiberglass fenders and hood. any one have an idea of what parts to use. |

Who told you your crank was no good?
It is not uncommon to add material to the thrust bearing surfaces then machine it back to spec. That's what was done to my steel crank to cure its out of spec thrust bearing. Same thing on my friends BB Chevy. I'd get a second opinion on your crank if I were you. |

WS23 is right its not uncommon to weld the surface up and machine it back to spec, the real question is why did it wear the thrust surface of the crank?check the main cap for walking and was the trans pushing the crank forward? was the input bottoming out in the crank hole?it can if its an automatic crank.take a close look before you reaasemble or you might end up there again..........PRO......

no one said the crank WAS bad , im was just prepairing for the worse. motors not out yet so friday night ill have it out and disasembled for a better look.
Pro, what exactly dp you mean about the trans. Are you saying the trans inputshaft could be walking also , wich is intern pushing the crank around. thats a very could possability because all the sudden the trans , front seal started leaking bad. loooks like a big bill coming up thanks guys |
