Lightbulb 72'charger exhaust help?

I got a 72' charger that i'm reduing the dual exhaust on. Iwant it to make noice but not too much so I think I might go with Flowmaster series "30" muffler for a small block motor, or should I got with 40's? Would a h-pipe really help out or not? The motor is pretty much stock except for the heads.

I don't really like flowmaters. I have gotten rave reveiws from strangers in the street with a 2 1/4 inch pipe w/an "H" pipe using some basic Dyno Max Mufflers.
The "H" pipe will add HP and make the exhaust a few db's quiter.

I'm with rumblefish. That is the system I use on my 383 runner- works great, plenty of low rumble and no tinny rap. I like it alot.

I personally love the tinny sound of flowmasters but they are LOUD ! for a smallblock car i would either go with 2-1/4 pipes with 2 chambers or maybe 2-1/2 with 3 chambers if its really well built you can use the 2-1/2 with the 2 chambers.

Being a former under car tech., I can say that you probably will not be happy with Flowmaster mufflers. Two problems: first, you say you have a stock small block, and Flowmasters generally don't sound good with small cams. Now something with a really built engine, F.M.'s are the only way to fly. They make the car sound like a school bus going through a tunnel. Second, Flowmasters transfer a lot of sound into the car, so it'll be louder inside than out. I installed many sets of Flowmasters and took off nearly as many. I'm with Rumblefish 360, go with the Walker Dyno Max Super Turbos. The'll give you a good tone, won't kill your wallet, and won't turn the interior of your car into an echo chamber.

I have a 3" system and I think the only reason I have'nt gotten a ticket(yet) is the H-pipe I had the muffler shop weld in. Do you have headers? H-pipe should be as close as possible to collectors.

Default exhaust.

the motor I have is a 360 with a 4bbl. I did put a edelbroke intake on it. I do have a cam that I might put into in, but don't know yet. I got a set of headers for it , wont put them on for awhile cause I might sell the car. I asked a muffler shop that does trick exhaust work. THey said h-pipes are a wastes of time(I think it's cause they mainly do imports). does 2 1/2'' pipe sound good all the way back?

I am running a complete TTi exhaust system on my 440 Cuda with 2-1/2" Dynomax Ultra Flow Mufflers and I would not trade it for anything. It has a real mean sound to it and it makes a lot of power. In fact the ultra flow mufflers will flow more air through them than FM with less noise. I had FM's on it for one week then I trashed them and went to the UF's.

I have 2 chamber 2 1/2 Flowmasters on my Roadrunner. They don't sound tinny but they are loud. I love driving by a fancy car and setting off it's alarm, it's great. I've had no problems with the police well except the one time I flew by a State Policeman in the dark he wipped it around and followed me home. He mentioned something about a decible level but didn't have the instrament to measure it. That was the last I heard about it. I was toying with the idea of puttng in a H pipe, does it really help? later shawn

Do they work? Well the factory put them on all dual exhaust cars i beilieve. They mello out the exhaust note some and help improve exhaust flow.

I'm not sure what series they are. They are for 5.0 mustang applications (I got them cheap) thats why I have them on the car. As of right now they are dumping out before the rear tires, but 'm going to put them back out the rear using the Flowmaster rear tailpipes for B-bodys. The motor is a 383.

Take a look at Spintech mufflers. http://spintechmufflers.com/spintech/spintechindex.asp

That is what I am going to with my 440. Currently running an ancient 2.5" system, cross over pipe, cheap Dynomax super turbos, and 1.75" headers. It is rumbly but quiet at idle and draws a lot of glances from nearby cars. Sounds pretty mean though off idle and at WOT and gets glances from far off cars.
