air cleaner and fan questions
has anyone tried to counterfiet an unsilenced 340 air cleaner yet? i love the looks, but hate the price. if yall havent actually done it, any suggestions on how to go about it?
also, will one 16" electric fan inside a factory shroud be enough to cool off a healthy small block on a hot summer day? mike |

Hey,
According to the responses that I received on my "Push or Pull" thread, the fan is actually only useful up to about 30 m.p.h. After that, the fan won't keep up with the natural air flow, anyway. So, your 16" idea should be fine. What the hell is an 'unsilenced 340 air cleaner'? |

dual snorkel
If your refering to a "dual snorkel" air cleaner, I have prefabed those in the days when single snorkel 4bbl air cleaners were common. These days, they're not easy to find either.
As for the fan, the last guy is right on. I installed two electric air fans from toyota tercels on my full size van. They're about 11" across, go on the outside, pushing in. In any case, they are only on when stopped in traffic. If there is any movement of the vehicle at all, the temperature stays down. Gives you an idea of how much energy is wasted turning the fan 100% of the time, when you only need it 10%. |

the unsilenced ones are the large ones used on 70 340 models. they have no snorkels, no baffels to silence the incomin air, nothin. they just have a few large holes feeding direcly into the air filter.
thanks for the fan advice. ill put that one to use. mike |
