The 2" super comp headers are too big for the mild 383, plus they are designed for the taller deck 440, so they may hang down further and cause fitment problems in the chassis.

I had the Hooker comp 1-7/8" headers on my 383 and they fit pretty good and actually sealed, but I lost a bit of low end torque that I had with the 1-3/4" blackjack headers. The smaller tube headers seemd to work good on the mild 383, but the quality was so bad, I sent them back and got the Hooker headers.

Later when I swaped the 383 for the 451 stroker I used the 2" hooker super comp headers and these are a really tight fit and hard to work around, even with the raised exhaust ports of the B1 heads.

Default tti headers

Go with the tti headers if you are going with the tti exhaust. I got them both for my ebody and love them. The headers are worth it. Plus the system is ment to go together. A perfect match! Also,2" is too big. 1 3/4

What size do you think for my mild 440... I currently have the Mopar Performance 1 5/8" headers.... I think the thing would breath better with a 1 7/8 " tube...

My opinion, the 1 3/4 is ok for your current set up however if you plan to upgrade in the near future and go faster, go for 2". I hate to see anyone buy twice. Thats alot of gear for a mild bb. What do you cross the line at?

I cross the line at 106... about 5600 RPM... I read that the 1 and 7/8" headers seem to be best fitted for a motor like this (mild street strip motor).... I was just trying to see what other people are running and did it really make a big difference... The article I read had the 1 7/8" out performing the 2" up to 6000 RPM... and it gave about 15 - 20 HP over the small 1 5/8"... Is it worth the expense to throw the bigger headers on there?????

I did not know anyone even made that small (1-5/8") a header for a big block?

The general rule for a performance type engine is to use a header tube diameter that is about the same size as the exhaust valve.
Race engines usually go with a slightly larger size, and rv engines a slightly smaller size, because ofwhere their RPM power bands are.

Anyhow, the 1-7/8" should work good on your engine.
