i dont know if anyone remembers me, but i have an 87' granfury with a mild 318, 727-3000 stall, 8 3/4-3.91 sure grip. first time to the track it ran 15.10@91. second time there i broke a pushrod a mile from the track. just got it back together last week and went racing tonite.
1st pass. 14.36@93-60ft 2.05
launched at 1500, shifted at 5500
2nd pass. 14.47@93-60ft 2.17
launched at 2000, shifted at 5800
i'm pretty happy with the results, considering the car weighs somewhere close to 3800lbs and only has a little 318. surprised the hell out of my mustang loving friends, they're thinking real hard about weather they want to make fun of me anymore. well thanks everyone for the advice you have given me. i'll keep you informed on other runs. hoping for 13s next time.

Ya notice the little engine that could likes the lower RPM's, next time try a pass with a 5200 shift from 1st. Hang on to 2nd till 6200, just for fun.

I'm a-gasp & a-gogg! That 318 is making some serious power to drag that barge at that speed in the quarter! I'm proud of ya! Now... if you could get the 60' times down in the 1.5-1.6 range, you're looking at high 13's! I believe the "humiliation factor" makes the 318 the most satisfying engine to build. Get the Mopar Chassis Book & tune the chassis as far as you can! There is usually a lot of time (tenth's plus) left in an "unprepared" chassis.

Keep up the good work!

i still have a few things left to do. the race was on 275/60 bfg radials, i have 26x10.5 et streets for it. i think they should make the biggest difference. it also has a high rpm miss(currently using mopar chrome box,mp distributor, msd coil and wires) that i cant figure out. recently ordered a holley hp annihilater ignition, will be installed monday. also have a electric water pump drive to hook up. the funny thing was that when i raced it was on a full tank of gas(18 gallons) and had nearly 150 pounds in the trunk. i think with the few mods it should easily be in the high 13's. trying to get ready for a race next saturday(nov 6). detroit v.s imports. i'm hoping to kick some japanese ass. i'll keep you posted on the little motor that could.

How high an RPM miss are we talking about here. The reason I ask, is that I have had this experience. In my instance it was an inferior head gasket, I had blow by between cylinders, A new set of felpro's cured it at the time. Just a note, the engine was good to over 5000 RPM before the miss would start. There was a little black trail on the head gasket at the thinest point. It also got worse as time went on, and became easy to find, but timing was my first area of trouble shoot.

Just trying to help, Brian

Great job ram50, it's a great feeling of acheivement. One word of advice, if you get the car where you want it before eliminations, don't adjust anything. Read the info that dartman passed on to me under 70 duster goes to strip pt3 for some staging ideas, it might help. good luck.
