Pushrod Lengths with Edelbrock RPM Heads on 440?
Installed a set of the Edlebrock Aluminum Heads on a 440 last weekend w/.509 MP cam & lifters. Quite a lot of upper end noise after engine warms up--like pushrods are to short. Oil pressure is good, 70 psi warm & idle.
From what I have found out, stock hydraulic pushrod length is 9.295--Comp Cams has a set that are 9.315--only .020 longer--don't think that will cut it. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks |

The best cleanest method to solve this problem is to run adjustable rockers and either get cut to fit pushrods or measure the pushrod length you need and have them custom made. In either case, you'll need an adjustable pushrod length checker.
If you're running non-adjustable rockers, and you don't want to convert yet, then you can try adjustable pushrods. I got a set from Hughes which work great on my 440. The cam had been changed out, but the stock pushrods were left. I had the same problem of losing preload when the motor warmed up. |
