Default 340 Retro Block and Roller Cam

Crane rollers will not fit in the retro block because of the extra meat on the galley side of the cylidar wall.

Anyone know of a roller that uses a different bar design that does not go against the cylinder wall or an alternative?

Thank you,
Kory

Is the push rod angle so much you can't just turn the lifter 180 degrees?

Correct - the connecting bar on the pair of rollers prevents the lifter set from being rotated. I appreciate the idea and wish it worked!

Comp Cams used to make a short roller lifter designed for the "R" block with 9" deck and rev kit. It was the .904" diameter. The only problem is I believe they only produced them with .180" offset intake, centered exhaust. The connecting bar was on the block side however. Lanati makes a lifter with a very thin upright for the connecting bar. The lifter is centered, not offset. It might clear.

Kory, please excuse my ignorance with rollers in a small block. After looking at your picture i still don't understand why you can't put the lifter in with the bar toward the cam. We just had the same problem with an Indy aluminum big block, so we did what i said and put them in with the bar toward the cam as the lifter really doesn't know the differance. The only problem that I can invision is that the angle between the lifter and the push rod could cause the top of the lifter to hit the push rod not allowing the push rod to set in its cup.

Post Lifters for 'R' block

I've recently had an R block motor done by Hensley Racing(865-947-0426). Ask for Ken Hensley or Matt Hensley. They did an excellent job on my motor. I used a roller camshaft done by Cam Motion. Keep us posted . Wedgehead

Will OEM hydro 318/360 rollers work? I often wondered this on a '68 340 block. All it has is a web that holds the lifters perpendicular to the cam.

Default Pushrod Angle

Cuda367,

You are correct - the pushrod angle makes it impossible to reverse the lifters.
