I am extremely interested in the new 4.7L set to show up in the 2000 Dakota's. I have found out a few things but I want to know more. What will be the performance of this engine? I also know it will be a single OH cam; is there any other info?

Another interesting thing I heard, is the 5.9L R/T engine is set to be replaced in 2001 by a bigger version of the new 4.7L. Is there any info on that?

KIPP.

the only thing i heard about the 4.7 is that it's suppose to have the same or more power than the 5.2, but better gas mileage.

I don't know how the 4.7 will be in the Dakotas. But, I can tell you they run very good in the '99 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My wife has one with the 4.7L engine and it is really quick off the line and around town. I was impressed for a vehicle that weighs a little over 4,000lbs. It gets about 17.5mpg around town. I don't know what it gets on the hwy, we haven't taken a trip yet.

Overall, we are very pleased with the performance of the "new" engine.

Hope this helps.

Cool

I have heard rumors of a 5.4L engine, that is supposed to be put in the dakota's and durangos, as well as Grand Cherokee's(WJ's), maybe even in the rams. I think the 4.7L in the new grands i weak compared to my 5.9L and i even like the 5.2L better than the 4.7L something about the old 318.

later,
Scott

I think the 4.7 is DOHC setup. I am wondering if it is the same base engine as some of the other makers like Toyota. It is funny that other auto manufactures are putting 4.7 in there trucks. At the same time.
