Default U-Joint tech tip

Why does my rear u-joint wear out so often?
This is usually the case when a u-bolt style pinion yoke is used. The pinion yoke is not the
problem the overtightening of the u-bolt is the cause of the failure. You may find that every time
you change the damaged rear u-joint you will find that one or both of the journals or caps that
are under the u-bolts are destroyed and the ones that are pressed into the shaft are still in
good shape. You did it to yourself! 17 ft/lbs for 1310 & 1330 series and 20 ft/lbs on the 1350
series.

I had a u joint that caused me days of bitching. I replaced ALL the u joints last fall. Then in December I had gears installed. Well I started to get this awful sound in the rear so I assumed it was the gears, I pulled the whole rear apart and readjusted the gears. Put it back together and had the same noise. Got under the truck and felt the u joint, it was tight, so I pulled the rear end apart again. This time I was going to pull the pinion out and check the bearings. Well when I pulled the driveshaft the caps fell off the two exposed ends and rusted needle bearings followed. After careful inspection I found that the grease holes were not drilled completely through the two ends. When I greased them, the grease only went to 2 of the four caps. I was pissed and was just waiting for the parts store to try and make me pay for another one (the 3 month warranty was up). Luckily they gave me a new one with an apology even though it was the factories fault. I did learn that the 3 month warranty is nothing though. Obviously a non greased u joint will last past the 3 months!!

Did the box say "Made by C. Hina and Co."
When will these parts stores realize that we are more interested in quality than price?

Cheap chinese u-joint...$12.00
Real Spicer u-joint $15.00 whats the question here?
