Throttle Bodies
I started looking into mods for my 2001 R/T and decided to start with the throttle body (I already have the IP Stage III intake). I have talked to a few people and am getting conflicting information. After talking to Marty at KRC, he recommended the 50mm TB to go with my future mods (M-1, 1.7 roller rockers, Mike Leach PCM flash and header back exhaust). Acording to Dan "the fastman", he said that with my future mods I should go with the 52mm (actually 51.75) rather than the 50mm (actaully 50.29).
I'm assuming that both of these guys know what they're talking about (at least more than I do). What is everyone using for throttle bodies? From what I can see it looks like most of you use the 50mm. According to Dan it depends on the engine. He says that the 5.2 should use the 50mm while the 5.9 should use the 52mm. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments (either about TB sizes or either of these companies)? Thank you. NightBandit |

Opinions will vary, but...
I have the F&B 50mm TB on a very modified (soon to be extremely modified) 5.9 engine. Throttle bodies do very, very little for performance overall, so don't worry so much about what size as you wouldn't be able to verify a difference anyway. Go with F&B if you want a new, clean piece with great workmanship. Go with the others (ported trade-ins) if you want to save some cash. |

I talked to Marty and Dan and Marty from KRC told me if I want to save cash, do the core exchange w/ Dan on a 52mm because it flows the same air as a billit 50

I went and spoke to a few of the guys here who are doing most of the future mods on my truck and they said that going with a 52mm throttle body will actually slow the velocity of the air coming in and rob you of torque. They only go with the 52 if the engine is significantly modded (6.7L stroker kit).
I'm only going to swap out the TB when I put in the M1 intake. Go with the headers and exhaust first, as it is a guaranteed 10-12 hp increase. |

durango 360, how long have you had that powerdyne? i might get one for my dakota and was wondering if it would ping at 6#? i have a 180t-stat, 3923's (might switch to 3922's with the SC) and the bosh/ford 19# injectors.
i just want to bolt it on and not have to buy anything else like a msd box to cure pinging issues. what do you think? Eric |

With the many reports of knocking on stock engines, you will most likely experience some form of detonation with a supercharger on a stock engine, especially in higher stress situations (racing, hills, towing, etc.) Be prepared to first buy at least an A/F gauge, and watch the gauge closely before and after the install. If you're running lean, you'll have to start adding stuff. |
