Default Distributor ?

I bought this distributor and was in the process of rebuilding it when I noticed that the advance weights only have 10 degrees of advance on them. Would it be wise to add another 10 degrees? Also what amount of vacuum advance should I use on my 360?

Answer to #2. MoPars in general like about 34 degrees adv. Set this # with the vacum hose off the distrib and seal so it dosn't leak.
Test at the track and move the timing around to see if there are any gains to be made.

Cool

If the weights are stamped with a number 10, that means they will give 10 degrees at the distributer and 20 at the crank.

So, if, in fact your engine likes 34 total and 14 initial, you're there.

As for the vacuum, like rumblefish said, get the initial and total set the way you like them first. Then go for the vacuum.

The only adjustment you have on the vacuum canister is @ what hg. it begins to advance. There is no adjustment for how many degrees it's going to advance. This is built in to the canister and the arm will also be stamped with a number representing distributer degrees.

Allen screw (I believe it's 3/32) in the vacuum port of the canister. Clockwise will make it start advancing at a lower hg., and counter-clockwise, vice-versa. Rule of thumb is to start the advance at the lowest hg. possible without getting any pinging.

Hope this helps you,

Joe

Makes damn sense, Thanks! And by the way the engine is running gggrrrreat. The vacuum can has a 7.5 stamped on it so I'll assume 7.5 degrees at the distributor and 15 degrees at the crank. You've really helped, thanks again, later.
