Default What timing chain is better- seal power or mopar?

Not wanting to order one in and pay more then it's worth for shipping and stuff, I'm going
to just get one around here for the 360.

The most common brand of double roller the parts stores have is seal power. The chain
from the dealer is a fair bit less. Someone I used to know said that the stock 318 chains
never last long from the dealer, does this hold true with all their chains (and the double rollers?)? Yet at the same
time I haven't been about to find out much about the sealpower ones except that some
people say that they wear out quick, but people complain about just about all timing
chains wearing out too soon.

I'm not going to order one from Summitt or a similar company, so unless it's normally available through a regular parts store I don't want to hear any other recommendations (for just one thing it ALWAYS ends up costing about 2X the original price when I do).

Thanks!

You get what you pay for, got a double roller from Autozone for about $30.00. The exact same brand and part number cost $59.00 at another local parts store. Ordered a double roller for a 340 from Mopar and the superior quality was visually evident. All so called double rollers are not created equal and expect to pay for a quality piece, they will all perform equally for a short period of time then the chain stretch and variences in timing will convince you that a few more dollars ere worth it. You could also opt for the tensioner for the chains which is really a band aid to keep the slack out of the loosening chain. Go to the parts store and take a look at the best and cheapest chains and decide on the one to purchase.

I love the pro gear chain. Little pricey ($112 from Hughes Engines) got hardened gears, tsubaki chain, and is a true roller! Also a 9 key way!

I have to agree with MoparMac,
A good chain is worth the extra $$$$$

Here's a little tip Tru-Roller and True Roller are not the same.

Look carefully at the rollers, if you can see a tiny seam in the rollers it's not a TRUE roller. Those little seams are what separate the good from the cheap.

Roll-Master makes a nice set, billet gears and a true roller chain. The're made in Australia and run around $120 bucks, but you get what you pay for and $39.99 to Smummit or Jiggy is not worth what you pay for.

Buy the best the first time and buy it once.

Thanks for the replies Fred! I noticed your other one last night.

If I have time monday morning I might call a couple other places, to see if any of these other chains that are recommended can be found around here, and for how much, then I'll drop by and look at them and the dealer one and decide. Everything costs so damn much when you order things from the US. It's only worthwhile when you're making a big order (which I never do). It's pretty much guaranteed that you double the price of things and that's what you'll pay! 3 years ago when I dropped the 360 in I checked about that flexplate and the damn thing was somewhere around $200 or more (forget the exact price now) after I got it here, paid duty, shipping, taxes and all that stuff.. Paid a tranny shop $30 to put the weight on my converter, then paid them $30 again when I went to the 727...if I was changing transmissions regularely it would have been worth it, but I dont.

And thanks cuda66273 for telling me what to look for. I asked about the difference between true rollers before and was told the answer, but wasn't told what you said.

Default Rollmaster

Where can you find the Rollmaster set? I have looked on the Mancini Website and have not seen it there and I have looked at a number of other sites and not been able to find. Thanks.

Give REV in florida a call they are the American importer I'm sure they can give you a distributor in your area or they will sell direct.

Sorry I don't have their number handy.

Ask for Al and use my name, Don Gould from Oregon...it may get you a deal.

After looking around and not finding anything else locally within a decent price range, then getting screwed around by the local dealers (one that lied and wasted over 20 minutes of my time, and the one I normally use that had a putz working today) I got a sealed power chain. Hopefully it'll last a while. I was thinking about ordering an MP one, but they wouldnt even give me the price of it unless I came in, and after treating me like an ass I didn't want to order anything through them anyway.

BTW, the CarQuest gasket kit has mopar parts. I was a little surprised to see that.

Thank you.

I find it constantly amazing the number of extremely intelligent, devilishly handsome people with sparkling personalities agree with me. Well, I guess birds of a feather...
