Default How do I change Vacuum Advance Springs?

I have a single point Mopar distributor, that I changed over to a Pertronix unit. I think I'm going to need lighter advance springs.
What's the process of this spring swap?
Thanks, Todd

Todd you must remove the pentronics that you put in. If the relucter wheel is still in that must go also.It will just pull off. Next is to drive out the roll pin at the bottom. This should allow you to remove the shaft. Before you do that there are I think two screws may be more on the side to remove the plate. I am going on an electronic one that I took apart. With points I dont know if there is a plate or not.

Hope this helps.

Cool Changing Advance Springs

The advance springs & weights are below the plate that held the point set. The last time I did this change, I did it to an electronic Distributor, but, the process is the same. You can buy a kit from Crane (I believe) that has a Vacuum Diaphragm and springs. Sells for about $20.00.

What you need to do is to change the advance curve so that it comes in quicker and total change is less than stock. The kit has a selection of springs and good instructions. Unless you start with a distributor machine and know what your starting point is, it will be a trial & error project to determine what works best with your combination. But, that is what this hobby is all about! Good Luck.

Or next time I'm over I'll break more than a grounding wire! Need some extra mounting holes for your gauges?

Thumbs up amen

Yeah no kidding!

A buddy was going to help me fix all that but we never got around to it. Seems his car (that was running fine) needed a new motor and other crap done to it. So it comes first...

Not to mention him being a very busy with brake jobs, oil changes and 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 cheeseburgers.

I love you man!

And I'm telling you in front of all your mopar pals!
