Piston to Valve Clearance
Hello there,
I need some help on a matter with my 440. I am building a 440 motor and it is a '68 block and my question is: How much piston to valve clearance do I have with flatop pistons and Edelbrock aluminum heads with the 2.14/1.81 valves? I will not be milling the heads. The reason for this question is I want to run a fairly large camshaft, in lift, so I want to be able to know how high of a lift I can go on a hydraulic camshaft and still have piston to valve clearance. Your expertise is greatly appreciated. God bless. Scott |

Its very hard to say without knowing what the deck height of the pistons and what cam you are running. Valve notches are usually needed when you run a cam with more than 286 dur with 10-1 comp in a BB. The only way is to actually check it when you have your parts.
