Default What's Up With My New 296 .557 Mp Cam.....

JUST GOT DONE CHECKING MY ACTUAL LIFT AT THE CAM LOBE ON MY .557 SOLID MP CAM. HERE ARE MY FINDINGS:

LOBE CROSS SECTION: 1.189
LOBE TOP TO BOTTOM: 1.552
(YES I DID TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE LOBE TAPER)

1.552-1.189=.363
.363X1.5=.545(WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO MY .557 LIFT?)

THEN FIGURE IN THE .028 VALVE LASH:

.545-.028=.517 VALVE LIFT!!!

I NEVER WORRIED ABOUT THE .028 LASH BEFORE, I FIGURED MOPAR TOOK THIS INTO ACCOUNT WHEN THEY GROUND THE CAMS AND ADDED ENOUGH LIFT TO GET THE LIFT THEY ADVERTISED. GUESS NOT.

LOOKS LIKE I WILL HAVE TO USE A 1.6 ROCKER JUST TO GET CLOSE TO THE ADVERTISED .557 LIFT! AND THAT WILL ONLY GET ME TO .553 VALVE LIFT!

You really need to measure the lift with a dial indicator while rotating the cam. When I measured a small 260/270 duration cam the way you described, the lift came out way too small also, so I put the cam in "v" blocks and measured with my dial indicator while rotating the cam and got the correct cam lobe lift numbers.

THANK'S!! TOOK YOUR ADVICE (AND MY DAD'S) AND CHECKED THE CAM IN THE BLOCK WITH A DIAL INDICATOR HERE ARE THE RESULT'S:
.370 LIFT AT THE LOBE!!

MUST HAVE BEEN INTO THE ACCEL. RAMP WHEN I USED THE MICROMETER.

.370X1.5=.555 LIFT(CLOSE ENOUGH!)

I PLAN TO USE THE CRANE 1.6 GOLD ROLLERS WITH THE CAM SO I SHOULD HAVE .564 VALVE LIFT AFTER SUBTRACTING THE .028 LASH.

THANK'S AGAIN!!
