Default Mopar Performance Cam

Hi guys. I've owned many Chrysler products (4 mini vans, an Intrepid, a Durango, and a PT Cruiser) but this is my first Mopar muscle car. It's a '68 GTX - 4 speed, which I plan to cruise in, not race. I recently installed a P4120235 hydraulic Purple Cam. It has a .484 lift, 284 duration, and 68 overlap. I'm looking for help from some other guys with the same camshaft. Here are my questions:

1. What are you running for manifold vacuum? Mine is 7 - 8 inches. Some guys tell me that's normal, while others tell me I should be running at least 8 - 10 inches.

2. I installed the cam using stock pushrods and rocker arms. Again some guys tell me that's fine, while others tell me I must use adjustable rocker arms or adjustable pushrods. The cam had a sheet included telling how to adjust the valves, but obviously I didn't need to adjust them when using the stock components. There was nothing in the box saying that you have to install adjustable components with the cam.

I hope you don't think I'm a total idiot by asking these questions that I'm sure you veteran Mopar guys will probably consider to be pretty basic. Thanks in advance for your help...Brian

Brian;

Cams will behave a little different in each engine.
Did you degree it in? This has an effect on a few things.
Make sure you dont have a vacum leak.

You can use stock rockers. Stock pushrods can be used as well. You should make sure that they are of the right length. The new cam is not the same size as the other cam at the cam. The older P-rods can be to short.

These questions are good ones. Don't beafarid to ask. At one point, we all knew nothing. And thats why were here. To help someone learn something. Myself inculded.

Brian,
We have been running the 235 for years in our circle burners. Good cam but doesn't have a lot of vacuum for accessories, anywhere from 7 to 10 is normal depending on idle speed and engine displacement. All the stock components will work fine, but a little more valve spring is good. We idle from 900 to 1000 with the 383/400 and 750 to 800 with 440's. A good vacuum cannister will help also.
