How long has it been since the last time you fired her up?

Congratulations on your retirement. I retired a couple of years ago, thinking I'd be bored stiff with nothing to do - after all - there is only so much hunting and fishing a guy can do. Anyway, I'm so damn busy that I need to go back to work for a break!!

As far as your '55 pickup is concerned, I'd drain the gas tank, squirt a little WD-40 in the cylinders overnight (leaving the plugs out), put in new plugs, replace all the fluids including gas and fire her up.

Were any problems showing the last time it ran?

When was the last time you thought of yourself as a "junior" anything? I think they should change it to "new" member. Somehow, I never really felt like a "junior" person in anything!!

Have you considered selling your truck and putting the money into some other project? If you have, I might be interested in buying it.
