Imperials where built in 65-78 as a C body
Brought back in 90-93 as a CY body along with the 5th avenue.

Default 81 Imperial

Since the body style of the 81 imperial is sister cars with the Cordoba and the Mirada, I think the body style is considered an "S"body, or an "X" body. I may be wrong, But i'm pretty sure it's one or the other. "I'll take the 50/50 Regis..."

Go to your local Dodge dealer and get the new 2002 Mopar Performance catalog and on the first page is all the terminologies of the body types for every year. I would tell you what it is but I left it at my work in my mail box. I am sure your car is a "J" body.

By the way, that wasn't a dumb question. Never!

No such thing as dumb question here....

If you don't ask you'll never learn and that would be dumb

The MP catalog doesn't list the '81 Imperial but if you compare suspension, brakes, etc. it looks more like an "R" body.

Default And the answer is......................

Ok, I called Mopar Performance tech, and HE says that it is a R body. They make no rear suspension components, they must be made special. And the shipping weight is 4600, so I guess that throws a big weighted stone into the project. I still looking for that F body wagon though........

I think that Imp would be a real neat car rodded up. I'd use a crate 360, a well done 340, or a big block if it would fit. If you have one I'd say do it up! .......djs

I have a 360 +30, 9:1, good bottom end cam( I forget the specs ),ported heads, port matched streetmaster dual plane, headers, 727, 3k stall man. shift valve body, 8.25, 3.55 gears sure grip, ss springs (a body). ran 13.0's 100 mph in 1/4, 7.8 spinning 95 mph in 1/8th. Car weighed 3350 w/driver & fluids.
Just wondering if the weight increase wil significantly ipare this or if I have to change the converter to match the weight of the vehicle. I know that I'll have to change the rear & spring, It's just a matter of what I find. MP said that it may be either a 9.25 or 8.25. Any ideas? (I thought of a cute name: Imperial Stormtrooper.....)

Question

And I just found out that NO ONE makes headers for this thing.
I may try my A body headers if everything else fits.
