Default Vacuum Advance for Electronic Ignition

I need to replace the vacuum advance on my 440 engine equiped with a Mopar Electronic Ignition. There are many folks selling these new distributors, but I can't find a single catalog that lists replacement parts, like the advance unit I need. I ordered one for a stock (point type) distributor, but the arm is bent differently. The number on the Mopar electronic advance is 3656310 and it has a 9L stamped on the arm inside. I also have an Mopar electronic distributor for a 383, and I thought possibly the advance units are interchangable, but the 383 has the number 3656833 on it and an 8L on the arm inside. Has anyone had to replace their electronic vacuum advance, and if so, where did you purchase it? Thanks in advance for your help. Brian

The one from the 383 should fit fine...you will just get 16 degrees of vaccum advance instead of 18. You should be able to go down to Napa/Advance, etc...and get one...all that you need is your distributor number.

I talked to Mopar Performance Tech line today. They told me that Chrysler no longer makes distributors, so they don't sell any replacement parts. They suggested that I try an Accel adjustable unit for a Mopar distributor. So far I've only seen ads for GM, Ford & HEI, so I'll keep looking. My local Chrysler dealer told me the part number on my vacuum advance isn't a good Mopar number. My NAPA dealer said they don't carry high performance parts like this, only replacements for original equipment.

It sure would be a lot easier if Mopar Performance would sell parts to service the units they sell. I can't fathom people having to buy a new distributor everytime a part fails. Pretty poor customer service in my estimation...Brian

The word I get is no cores, the performance units were actually rebuilds. No cores, no rebuilds. End of story. Been 24 years now.

Just wanted to let you know that according to Performance Automotive Warehouse, Crane has discontinued making the Mopar adjustable vacuum advance. I'm still trying to get a line on the Accel unit that Mopar Performance suggested...Brian

Try Vic Hubbard auto supply. I know that they are located throughout California and may have this part.

You might also try www.yearone.com and/or Paddock.

Good luck!

I just tried Vic Hubbard in Hayward. They checked their Accel catalog and told me they don't list any vacuum advance units for these distributors. I appreciate the tip, however. Guess I'm just going to have to pay the BIG bucks and buy an entire distributor to get a $15 replacement part... Brian

no reason a stock unit from , maybe a 73 charger with a 440 won't work.
