Default Decisions, Decisions-- spend the money on headwork or 1.6:1 rockers??

Well my 360 rebuild has reached the "all parts gathered" stage, and all that's been assembled is the shortblock minus cam & timing set. I managed to buy the reco shortblock cheap, and it has flattop cast pistons...

Question is: Should I mill the heads 0.04 to obtain 9:1 compression and be forced to keep on using 1.5:1 rockers for adequate valve to piston clearance,, or use the 1.6:1 rockers with heads unmilled and have only 8:1 compression?

The cam I'm using has 218*@ 0.050"/ .458"lift(1.5 ratio)

Some of the dyno simulator shareware on the net leds me to think there's more HP in the higher ratio rockers (the heads will be ported too), what's your opinion?

Cheers,Paul.S

For a street car (tight converter, tall gears) you need the compression (at least 9.0:1 with that cam so you don't loose too much low end torque.

better pistions. you can change your compression ratio to what ever you want. a good set of forged units will hold up to what ever you want to throw at them. (if you have nitrous or boost in your future). they are also going to be lighter, which is going to make a big differance.

and.... for a big reason. you can upgrade rockers later on, in about 30 minutes. but, if you need to upgrade pistons, time for another engine rebuild. everythign has to come apart!
