Have them pressed in, and since you have the A arms out of the car replace the upper ball joint. If the alignment needs some help go for the offset bushings, (these must be installed in the correct direction).

It’s a 273 with the forged crank, stock rods, block bored 0.03”. Heads are stock on the outside but have the stainless valves, .480 lift dual springs, molly retainers being bumped by a 340 resto cam .429 .444. All toped off with a old AFB and a 66’ iron intake. Went to the 67 904 with the larger input shaft and set to shift very hard. 8 ¾” diff with the clutch pack hooked to SS springs with adj. pinion snubber. Exhaust is 2 ¼” aluminum tube with thrush turbos. Mopar rallies with 235 60’s that can’t keep up with the task of traction. Nothing wiz-bang, just a good dri

Question

Hi Derrick,
Are you using stock exhaust manifolds? If so does the exhaust pipes exit like a formula S or do you have special cross member? Also, are you using solid or hydralic lifter cam with stock adjustable rocker arms? My 273 is 2bld. with 904 and 7 1/4" rear. Do you have 1/4 mile times for you combo. I trying to decide whether to replace 273 or stay with it. It runs really well but stock. I'm looking for ideas for my 66 Cuda.
Thanks
Bill

to change the bushings, all you need is a large pipe fitting and a vice. Works really fast and is extremely simple.

The formula s type exhaust in reverse is what was on it. Now the stock manifolds exit into a foot long 2 1/8” pipe then to 2 ¼” straight back to muffs before the diff and over it on each side. The 340 cam is a hyd. and I used the heavy gauge stamped rockers with the matching pushrods. No time slips. Just replaced the open 7 ¼ this winter it clanked badly but did not fail at 135,000. It did the job but don’t put any money in one, plenty of 8 ¼ ‘s out there. Replace the 273? An invitation for my opinion and will oblige. With the stock rotating assembly, lightweight forged pistons, and the stock rockers can do 6000 all day long with the right parts in between, been there. If you want ¼ mile times go big or stay home. 360 big bore Siamese block, forged stroker crank, H-beam rods, lightweight forged pistons, low tension rings, Highest flow aluminum heads, stiffest lightest valvetrane, blower or multistage nitrous, pro built torqueflight, tub, cage, Dana 60 narrowed, four link with air bag, rack n pinion steering, and cut out the fenderwells for the custom open headers, and all the other stuff the rulebook states you need for a 9 sec.car. If a particular time is your goal go to the track see what time people are running. Walk through the pits and look at the combinations. In the end do what makes YOU happy. 2 and 4bbl. 273 heads are the same and the 904 can handle a lot of powe
