Default Ported BB Edelbrock alum. heads vs stock Indy sr's

Hi I'm looking for alum. heads for a 383 street/strip car. Ok Edelbrocks price is better but they need to be milled more to get the compression I need[10 to 1],add pocket porting and a Indy valley plate[never did like stock setup] and you still have a lot into them. What do you think could ported Edelbrocks come close to the power of stock Indy SR's ?

I think the Edelbrock heads flow about the same as "stock" Indy S/R, and they should work good on a 383. If you want heads that will raise toyr compression ratio look at the Brodix (Koffels) B-1 B/S heads, simular flow to the Indy S/R and Edelbrock, but have 65 cc chambers.

They will beat, or be very close to the Indy SR's even without porting. Thr RPM's are "ready to run"heads with blended bowls and gasket matched intakes & exhausts. Ported they will beat the SR's easy, however the Indys have more porting potential than the RPMs. I don't mind the stock valley baffle, it has always done the job for me. Don't know how the Indy valley plate will work with the RPMs; the Indys are wider than rpms and the valley plate goes partially under the heads. That IS a PITA, since you have to remove the head to get access to the lifters. Unless you have the one with the inspection cover. I made one for my own that didn't have one.

My 1967 383 had the small d shaped combustion chamber. I'm guessing 69 to 72 cc. Any ome know for sure what cc these stock heads had,and what compression stock? I want to stay this same ratio with alumium heads as I credit this for making the car more reponsive than with a later year lower compression 440 I also tried. Thanks

67 383 would most likely be a 516 head closed camber, should be around 76 to 78 cc stock...dont toss out that head! ported with big valves makes a very good street and strip head.....Lee....

Thanks Guys I'll cheack into Brodix[though I think they would be expensive] and Edelbrock rpm heads. Would use Edelbrocks,if they are close to sr's performance. Most places offer pocket porting and gasket matching for around 250,thats not unreasonable, worth 18 hp.I haven't had problems with the stock valley gasket either.Think Plate and paper intake gasket might keep intake cooler. [When used with blocked heat cross over].I'll have to check width of plate and heads at next Mopar show.

Default Ported BB Edebrock alum. heads vs stock Indy sr's

Yes the they were most likey the closed chamber 516 heads. Unforchantly as a young 18 year kid I tried to do my own porting.BIg Mistake, didn't know what I was doing.I worked mostly on the short side.I know now that that most of your effort should be in smoothing the long outside port wall. Don't think I would use them now although they got my heavy b body car into the low 14's back then!
