is it a clutch or cone unit? (rebuild the clutch!!) you can do the cone too, but it's not "supposed" to be rebuilt.

pretty much start to finish. put the car on jackstands, pull wheels, drums, and drive shaft off. unbolt your axles and slide them out. unbolt your center chunk, and drain what you can before actually pulling the center out....gonna make things less messy. setup the chunk on a stand of some sort...2 pieces of drilled angle iron bolted to your work bench, so you can also bolt the chunk in is going to make things much easier. mark, and then unbolt your main caps. they need to go back just like they are. pull out your old sure-grip, and then unbolt your ring gear. (should be left hand thread), and work the gear off. if you have your new sure-grip ready to go, heat up your ring gear to ease installation (your wife won't like you using the oven, not to mention your food will taste funny.) slip the gear in place while it's hot, and thread in about 3 or 4 bolts, and snug them down, and let the ring gear cool. then, start putting all the other ring gear bolts in, and torquing them down. you should use new bolts, and locktite on them. don't forget to pull out those 3 or 4 bolts, and locktite them too. Put the sure-grip into the center section (using new bearings might be a good idea). set in the adjusters, and put on the main caps and bolts finger tight. make especially sure that the adjusters are in right. they are way to easy to get just a little crooked, and cause many problems. For this part, you are going to need a dial indicator. if you hold the pinion perfectly still, you should be able to spin the sure-grip/ring gear back and forth .008 of an inch, give or take .002. use that as a good guide line, and then check your contact patch, you should have a nice centered contact patch, top to bottom, and inside to outside. adjust until you do. if your pinion was set right before, this should be a snap. then, tighten down your adjusters, and main caps, making sure that you don't screw up your contact patch. if all checks good. (yes, double check it all again), put it back in your rear, put in some new axle seals, bolt everything back together.
