The thermostat in my wifes '95 Cherokee Sport 4.0 needs to be replaced. Is it a good idea to lower the rating of it to 180deg. Last summer I noticed the temp gauge creeping up past 230 with the A/C on in traffic.
Also, is there a Robertshaw or simmilar high flow pice available for the '95 4.0 sport.

You can drop it to a 180,but you are only delaying the onset of heat. The cooler T-stat will also possibly make the engine run a bit richer, but you may not really notice it.I don't know how many miles areon your wife's Jeep, but I'd pressure check the entire cooling system and pay attention to the water pump.My wife's 93 Cherokee started running warm,no leaks, and two weeks later the water pump went.

Hi Hemi Mike! Use the oem stat, stay away from the aftermarket. Your Jeep was designed this way. If it is running warm then there is a problem somewhere. Have the radiator flow-tested by a GOOD rad. shop. It might be plugged internally and/or externally. A/C condenser must be clean also for proper airflow. Fan clutch should also be checked for proper engagement. I own a A/C, Rad. cooling system shop. I have never had a Cherokee I could not keep cool with an oem 195 stat. Let me know, I'll help if needed!

Mike, Check this out also go to www.narsa.org
then locate a shop in your area. I am a member, also. It sounds like there is rad. problems, with the extra load on the engine and heat coming off of the a/c condenser the radiator can not keep up.
