Default New Mopar .484 and .509 cams, are they better?

Hi
I noticed they changed the centerline of these 2 cams and have alot less overlap now. They are showing the same powerbands between the old and new design.
Would the newer design make the same power as the old one?
I'm putting a 8-1 comp 400 together for my Volare while I build the 440 or build a 452 stroker. My old 400 with an actual 7.6-1 comp turned 13.15's with the .528 Mopar cam. I was going to put the.528 in but it makes alot of noise. I was looking at the new .484 and thinking about using my 1.6 rockers with it. It would have .516 lift 284 dur and only 56 overlap. Seems like that would work pretty good with no comp.
The new engine is a low mileage .040 400 that will get new rings and bearings, ported 516 heads with big valves, RPM intake, 1 7/8
Hooker headers, 750 Holley, MSD, 2500-2800 stall, 3.91 gears.
I have calculated comp to be around 8.5 in this one. Think the .484 would be better than the .528?
I'm not looking at any other Cam companies cause this will be on the cheap side and I can't beat $180cnd for cam and lifters and I already have the springs for this cam. I priced out Hughes and it looks like around $450us to change over so buy the time its shipped here likely $900cnd, its close to $800 for comp cams kit.
I'll try Hughes in my 440
Opinions are appreciated
thanks

I have the old timing #s for the chryco cams if you get the new centerlines I can run them into the laptop program for the timing events and compare them that will tell you.

Thumbs up I noticed this too!

I saw these in the catalog and was wondering the same thing you were. It says that they should be used for improved drivability. I am wondering if it is improved drivability with the same power output. If anyone knows about these please let us know.

The center line on the .484 and .509 is 114 and they used to be 108.
The best way I guess is if the .484 doesn't run the way I would like it to is to change to the .528 mid summer. Even the .509 looks alot better than before with 64 overlap compared to 76 on the old one.

I have the older style 292 cam in my 360 at the moment, idle is fairly choppy & the exhaust is smelly, the newer profile looks a bit more user friendly but I like the noise, everyone is different I guess.

Glen440, I recently bought the MP 509 just around Christmas time and it has the 108 centerline with a 76 overlap, and I degreed it to that.
I do believe that there is the old grind and the new. But these two cams you are describing sound like they are drasticly different. I think you may be wrong in your cam profile.
Can you correct me on this.

MP may have changed the cams to a dual pattern style by adding the next larger exhaust lobe (or the next smaller intake lobe), but they are the same, tired old OBSOLETE profiles from the '60's and '70's. They may run good but modern designs are better. As far as I'm concerned, the MP cams are junk. I won't ever buy one.

These are the updated versions of the cams. They only changed the centerline and overlap for better driveability. As for their cams I have no problem with them and if I could get any other big companies cam for less then double the price of the Mopar one maybe I would use them. $180cnd for cam and lifters is really cheap. I do get a 30% discount through my work. I priced out a comp cam and it was $220 without lifters. I have seen many cars with the Mopar cams go really fast so if your car doesn't work with one don't blame the cam.
I use them cause they are cheap.

I work at a dealership I was going to order the new 509 cam it does not come up anywhere in the parts pipeline. This was last week. They were not shown as back ordered none at any depot. Why do they do this, to see how many get ordered then have someone make the parts? As long as I'm venting $5000.00 for a 500 ci short block my cost? And you wonder how come everybody runs a bowtie.
