What rocker shafts to use with iron adjustables?
Just wondering what shafts can be used with my adjustable rockers. I have 2 sets of iron ones. One set are Mopar and one set that have shafts are from some old hot rodded engine and say Isky on them. I took them apart and noticed they are a little oval on both ends.
Can I use shafts for hydraulic rockers? Or do I need some ones that are especially for the iron rockers? I see in the Mopar catalogue that it only shows hydraulic and alum roller shafts. Thanks |

You should be able to use OEM rplacement shafts, unless your engine is built pretty stout. If the shafts you have are oval - out of round - you should have a machine shop check your rocker arms to make sure the bores in them are round. Or maybe... did I miss something in your question?

Like Doug said, no diff between hyd and mech, but the older ones (early to mid '60's) are better. The new performance ones are good too. The oval condition could be from too much arm on the wrench when tightening them down?

Thanks for your replies.
The Mopar Rockers are brand new 1.6 but don't say what shafts to use with them. The ones with the bent shafts are some isky 1.5's from the 60's and are just a little oval on the ends. I just found it odd that in the Mopar catalogue it didn't say with the rocker shafts that any were good for adjustable rockers. They only list a hydraulic shaft and an aluminum roller shaft. |

Some of the replacement rocker shafts won't work with adjustable rockers, the holes in the shaft are punched and this distorts them to an oval shape. This is no problem with the factory rockers but the adjustables won't even start onto the shaft.

Hello all...
heres my question for the day. I bought a set of crane 1.6 roller rockers from a freind. The rockers and shafts had dyno time only. I trust the guy I bought them from, so I'm sure it's what he says. My engine builder feels the shafts are stock and not Heavy duty. My friend says the shafts are aftermarket. How can I tell what shafts I have? Sometimes it feels my engine builder thinks these things up to give me the "shaft". And yes.. my engine builder has a set of the "correct" shafts for me thanks.... cage |

i don't know about the B or RB but for the LA you should use the ones with the "banana grooves", if you can get them.
