Question

Has anyone out there ever put headers on a 81 or newer full size truck with a 440 in it. My questions are will any brand fit? Should I consider block huggers. Or has anyone else incountered other problems.

Thanks Scott

The 72-80 trucks are the same thing pretty much just get headers for BB application. The blackjack type make the starter R&R a nightmare, plus they are so close to the starter it wont last long. My next set will be doug thorley tri ys.

ramn8ter,
Nice screen name!!!
Hey the thorley's work great!!! I don't know how long they last though??? I got a pair used that were 4 years old & the collectors fell off. But I live in North western PA where they salt instead of plow.
if can find some one who makes stainless thats the way to go & if U want longevity find T-304 STAINLESS

Good LUCK

RAMN8TER,
Another thought is CPPA, they advertise in the chrysler power & christian motorsports magazine. They are in some other MOPAR mags. They have a nice header & I heard that they were going to start selling them non coated so U could try those with an inter & exterior JET HOT coating.... Headers are almost $500 & the coating im not sure about... They also sell them in triple chrome plated also.. Not sure on the longevity with that but....

Question

I have the same question but a different truck.I'm swapping a 440 into my '63 D-100.I have CPPA 2" headers in my dart and also a set of 440 "A body" headers from bob mazzolini that look like a good fit,but would like to get a set with better plug wire clearance.Any ideas?

I have a 440 in a 85 and can't tell you what the header brand name is because they were on it when I got it. The original starter was way to close and was a problem. I replaced it with a Mini Hi Torque starter when I rebuilt the thing and solved that poblem. I also Jet Hot coated the headers. Being the engine made alot more heat after the rebuild it was burning the boots off the plug wires (mainly 3&5 - 4&6). I went to Jacobs Ceramic Boot wires and they fixed the problem, they are spendy, but they work!

Question

Are all you "header" guys happy?? I've got manifolds on my 400 Clubcab work truck. I'm swapping in a warmed over 1969 440 - shaved and ported heads, MP 484 cam, etc. Does anyone think I'm crazy to ditch the stock manifolds in favor of headers? I'm usually a header kind of guy, but my buddies hate them. They say they leak and cause grief. Every car I own that gets a silly big block gats them, with no troubles. Should I worry??
