Default Gotta give it up

Hey guys,
I've been looking through my catalogues and pricing things to build my replacement motor with (412 h.p.). I've come to the conclusion that my "Al Bundy" budget is forcing me to stay with the automatic instead of getting my four speed installed. My question to you is:
Which is going to be the best enduring, best performing, lobuk torque convertor for a A904 with about 2600 stall? Thanks ahead of time again.

P.S. Anybody need a '65 A833 with lots of extras for SB?

Everyone has their own opinion on converters. I have run the Alabama converter and have never had any problems. Mine stalls at 3000 and it was reasonably priced ($189). Unless you are making tons of hp and are running 10 sec quarters I don't think you need to go crazy on a converter. PRO has run the Alabamas in his cars (11-12 sec 1/4) and hasn't had any problems either.

Remember that most of the expensive converters are made for racing and shouldn't be run on the street.

I looked on-line and rememberd that the Alabama converters are built by ACC-Boss Hog.

Looks like Mancini offers a house brand that is 2600-3000 stall for $230. Sounds like a deal to me. Would be perfect on the street (depending on you cam etc.).

I run a ProTorque in my charger, pretty cheap (@200) and no problems, they are in Bohemia, NY.

Default What do you want for the a833

Hey, I just started my 440 project, I know I want a manual and I can't afford a 2g or 6g 5 speed or 6 speed, so I've been trying to find a a833. Is it in good condition? what hav you done to it? What kinda torque and hp ratings do you know it can stand up to ?

Hey TwiZtiD440,
I can't give you numbers off the top of my head as far as what the trans will put up with. I can tell you that I pulled the inspection cover to find pretty fresh looking synchros inside. Looks much better inside than outside. I would probably let the whole setup go pretty reasonably. But it must be all the pieces, or none. The only thing you should have to change is the bellhousing. Go ahead and email me at Ausydad@yahoo.com and we'll continue there. I'll try to get photos for you.

If That A-833 is for a small block it isn't going to work with a 440. The Main bearing is larger for the big block. If you try to mate up the small block a-833 with the big block bell housing it isn't going to fit snug it's going to have a ton of play. You really need a big block a-833 with the larger bearing.

I took the short cut road on a convertor....once

Cost me a set of bearing and a two wek vacation from racing....pushed the thrust bearing out of my new motor in about 20 passes.

Call Sean at Dynamic they have a real great street strip convertor for a very reasonable price..with a GREAT Warrantee!
