Question Anyone used the PAW Deluxe Master Rebuild Kit?

Im thinking of rebuilding my 1970 318 using the PAW Deluxe Master Rebuild Kit. Has anyone used this kit and if so, what are you thoughts on it?

Advertised in the March '02 Mopar Muscle for $358.00
I plan to go 030 over on the Pistons and maybe 010 over on the Bearings.

This is to keep me crusing until I can find a 360 or 440 to swap in.

Any thoughts will be welcome

As always, Thanks for your input.

Chris

Smile Good kit.

I used the delux master paw kit for a ferd 302, and it was a very comprehensive kit. it comes with everything a man (or woman) needs to do a solid rebuild.
A piece of advice I would give you, have all of your machine work done first, then order your kit with the over-bore and undergrind specs that your parts were machined to, that way there will be no surprises. I never have a block bored to a specific number. I tell my machine shop guy to take it to what ever it needs, weather its .020, .030. 040, or .060" I let him make the call. same goes for the crank grind. then when I order my kit, I just give him the cam bearings out of it because he has already put new ones in my block by then anyway.

5th - did you say to order pistons after the block was already bored ( finished, etc)? This puzzles me, because I always get the pistons first, then have the shop bore and hone the block to the pistons - with the hone sometimes being specific to the piston by cylinder - depending on the intended application of the engine.

That method works great as long as the cylinder walls and crank "clean up" with the specs you ordered your parts at. If not then you have the hassel of trying to exchange things. My $.02.

Default paw kit

just make sure you check the availability of oversize pistons for your motor. This way you have a direction to go in if, say, you wanted to go .30 over, but you can only get pistons in .20 or .40!

I am not saying that this will absolutely be the case with your 318, but it is worth looking at before you have your shop bore it, only to find out you cannot get the pistons you need. Usually not a problem
with chebbys and the like, but as you know, never say never with our mopars!

That paw kit sounds like the way to go for what you are planning, good luck.

The obvious solution here is to first take your block and crank to the machine shop, and have them clean it and measure to see what over/under sizes are needed.
THEN you order the kit, and it's all done. It may take a little longer to complete the job that way, but there's no guessing involved.

Gee... I just can't agree with that method. Here's how I do it: 1) block to machine shop to magnaflux and check factory specs for bore, cam to crank centerline distance and main saddle sizes. 2) order parts consistant with measurements. 3) have machinest build block to ACTUAL measurement of new parts.

It's possible to have a few thousandths variation betweent two different pistons that are spec'd at, say 0.030 over. I want my blocks machined to fit my parts. Also, if you are dealing with a bare block, how are you gonna know if it's already punched ? If you order pistons that are + 0.020, and the block is already 0.030, hangling that will slow you down and make you crazy.

Opinion from an old, senile, man

PAW?
Hummmm.....I'll bet they use the best of everything for $358.00...well the best that China can produce anyhow....

Sorry Guy's can't sell me this deal, there is no way you can buy a quality overhaul kit for $358.00.

Good, Fast or Cheap....pick any two.

I had to replace a output shaft seal in my tranny last year and the only one I could find at the time was Made in China.....I whinned about it then and I'm still whinning.....and it still leaked! I ended up changing it again to a USA made seal ...no more drips on my trailer deck.

Never again, no way, NO Chinese parts in my Mopar ever!
