Question Anyone ever used these?????

Greetings all,

Has anyone here ever used any of the POR-15 rust inhibiting paint products? More importantly, has anyone used them where salt is put on the roads in winter? Im interested in painting my trucks frame/underbody with it but before i go spending 300 CAD, i want to know how it stands up.

Thanks for your time.

i used por15 once before on a rusty trunk, it worked well. but my friend used it on chassis components, and it faked off. you have to make sure the items you are treating are TOTALLY GREASE & OIL FREE. good luck

My freind and I coated the complete frame rails on a pickup with it as well as the leaf springs and control arms. Take your time and you'll do well. Like he said, the key is making sure there is no grease or oil on the surface. Wire wheel, Easy Off oven cleaner, etc. until it gets down to it, then hit with thinners and wax/grease removers before you paint. Good Luck!

make sure you follow the directions. if you try to second guess them, youll waste a lot of time and expensive product. also, buy the metal ready. it makes the paint stick and do its job that much better.
i dunno about salt, but i did all the suspension pieces on the duster with it, as well as the engine, and it flat a$$ rocks. ive had no problems or complaints.

Thanks for all the replies,

I am planning to buy all of the products.

1) The Marine degreaser
2) The Metal Ready
3) The POR-15 coating
4) The chassis Coat

I figured if i did it all, it would work best. I plan on using it on the frame rails of the truck as well as the floorpans.

I figure ill sandblast the frame and floorpans first, then degrease, the metal ready then the POR-15 then the chassis coat.

I hope it works out.

Cheers,

GBM

Default What he said

Pink said something you may want to think about. POR15 does NOT want to come off (unless you did a poor job of prepping).

I just spend a couple of hours wirewheeling POR15 that someone used on an airgrabber aircleaner. Rather than cleaning and painting with correct paint, the previous owner just slapped on POR15. Looked ugly.

And was impressively difficult to remove.

Always good to hear from another Canadian Mopar nut! Be sure and let us know how you make out, the amount of salt that they put on these roads to melt the ice is madening, damn them! I would like to do the same treatment to my Dart and Dakota.
