I remember reading an article a few years ago, that explained how to setup two auto transmissions to work as one.
The tail was removed from the front trans and the bellhousing was removed from the rear trans, and i don't remember what else, but you ended up with a five speed auto. It had great ratios: 1 - 6.00 2 - 3.55 3 - 2.45 4 - 1.45 5 - 1.00 I've been looking for information on the subject but haven't found anything. I don't even remember what magazine i read it in. Thanks for any help. |

You left out a possable ratio for the 6-speed:
6.00, 3.55, 2.45, 2.10, 1.45, 1.00:1 I have never seen an article that connects two transmissions together, but the front transmission would need a custom output shaft, and an adaptor/rear support that connects to the front transmision input shaft and would also turn the transmission pump. The adaptor would have to address the front transmision governor fluid circuits possably using a manual valve body? You would also need two transmission shifters, one for each transmission, and either manual valve bodies, or some type of custom kickdown linkage for the valve body? |

As I remember, both transmissions had manual valve bodies and each had its own shifter.
That was the reason there were only five speeds. They were shifted like this: 1 - 1st front + 1st rear = 6.00 2 - 1st front + 2nd rear = 3.55 3 - 1st front + 3rd rear = 2.45 4 - 2nd front + 3rd rear = 1.45 5 - 3rd front + 3rd rear = 1.00 To get 2.10 you would have to shift both transmissions to second gear at the same time. Imagine, just add a Gear Vendors OD and a 2.76 rearend: 10 speeds, great launches, and low highway rpms. |
