i fit a 28x9 slick under a 64 valiant. i had ss springs onit but they were stock wheelwells. the rims were a steel 15x7 non sloted rims that i think i pulled off a dodge diplimat. they were definatly a factory wheel.

Hello
Here is some info I thought was interesting. I to have a 63 Valiant w/ tiny stock 13" wheels, 225 3 on the tree.
hope it helps out. I copy/pasted it from http://www.1962to1965mopar.ornocar.com

Small bolt pattern Wheels
All 63-72 A-bodies (and 73-75 A-bodies with front drum brakes) came with a unique to Mopar A-bodies 5 lug on a 4" lug pattern. This is quite often referred to as 5x4" BC (bolt circle) and as SBP (small bolt pattern) . All other Chrysler RWD passenger vehicles from as early as 1957 (possibly earlier as well) through to the late eighties used the more common 5 lug on 4.5" (5x4.5" BC) diameter pattern (with the exception of some 60-70's Imperials which used a larger 5x5" wheel pattern!). The 5x4.5" pattern is also shared by AMC and Ford ( Ford's center register is smaller than Chrysler's, whereas AMC's was exactly the same).

When a mopar is equipped with 5x4.5" hubs, the choice of wheels is practically never ending. With the 5x4", a car owner's options are very limited. Possibilities include:

stock 13" rims (a dime a dozen),
stock 14x5" steel rims (semi-common, but getting harder to find. These days, the most common salvage yard donor would be 73-75 drum brake A-bodies).
stock 14x5.5 "Y-band" steel rims. There were equipped on performance A-bodies in the mid to late 60's and they getting expensive at swap meets.
14" Rally wheels 14x5.5" (stock 70 and up)
From the currently in production aftermarket: Cragar S/S 14x6" and Centerline or Bart wheels (these last two will make any size you want, provided you bring the greenbacks... this kind of custom wheel service starts at around $150 per wheel).
Vintage aftermarket rims. Many other aftermarket rims were made for these cars 20 years ago, however production of these rims, other than the Cragar S/S, ceased long ago. Swap meets turn these up at reasonable prices.

What tires will fit A-bodies?
This question will have several answers depending on the car you are looking to install them on. Most of the time the question is "What is the largest tire that will fit?", In the rear, the limiting factor is generally tire width. The rear fenders hang down and skirt the tire. In the front, the limiting factor is generally tire diameter. On most A-bodies, the fender at the front of the wheel curves down and interferes with large diameter tires. Below are the tire characteristics I have on two my A-bodies:

model tire size rim width width diameter

Front 64 Dart P215/60R14 6.0-7.5 8.7" 24.2"

Front 69 Dart P205/70R14 5.0-7.0 8.2" 25.4"
Rear 69 Dart P215/70R14 5.5-7.0 8.7" 25.9"

In the case of the 64 Dart, I have these tires mounted on 14x6 slotted mag wheels. The manufacturers recommended rim widths for this tire is 6.0-7.5". This was the largest diameter and width combination that I could fit on the front of the car. The next diameter up (P225/60R14) would have been 0.5" larger in diameter and would have interfered with the fender on jounce. In the rear, I decided that I would use the same size as the front. There is an additional 1-1.5" of clearance between the tire and spring. With the right offset (custom wheels), a larger tire can be fitted.

In the case of the 69 Dart, I have all four of these tires mounted on stock 1974 mopar 14x6" steel wheels. I wanted to maximize the diameter, and then use the maximum width tire that would fit a 6" width rim at that diameter. In the front, I chose P205/70R14's with a 25.4" diameter. In a 60's series tire, I could only come close to matching that diameter with a P235/60R14 (25.1" dia.) however this size tire requires at minimum a 14x6.5" so it was disqualified. I have P215/70R14's in the rear of the 69 Dart, I have tried mounting these on the front and the larger diameter of 0.5"s is enough to cause the tire to contact the fender in a turn (ouch!!).
