I am thinking of replacing the stock muffler on my new Dakota. Before I do I was curious as to just how restrictive the factory units are. The truck has the 4.7l V8, and I would like more bottom end torque. I thought an aftermarket muffler with less flow restriction might be the ticket. I'd appreciate opinions.

I have a 5.9 in a '99 Ram 1500 qc 4X4. I took my flowmaster 53057 to the muffler shop and when he was cutting out the stock muff I actually thought he had cut out the transmission!! The beast measured 34" long. The flowmaster was 17" long. Picked up 1.5 mpg since then. I would say, for Rams, the exhaust is somewhat restrictive. Don't know about the newer Daks. How do you like the new engine??
