Yes, the 727 converter from a big block will fit in a small block 727 (and non-lockup 518.)
Things that could cause a problem are that some torque converters (Example, one from a 360) are counter ballanced and have extra weights on the converter. If your engine is internally ballanced, you will have to remove the weights or use the more common neutral ballanced converter.
There are also two different flexplate bolt patterns depending on the size of the torque converter. Many aftermarket converters also use a larger torque converter bolt, requiring a larger hole in the flexplate.
Around 1966-1967 The transmission input shaft spline count was changed, so you can not use a earlier transmission with a newer converter or vice-versa.

That pretty much covers the fitment issues. The stall speed of the converter will be lower on the smaller engine than on the big block, just due to the amount of engine torque produced.

Default thx

thx for the info
the tranny sits behind a 318"
so the balancing wont bee a problem..
gonna put a 9 1/2" nitrous reinforced t/q in it
think the s/p would be around 3000
