Question 727 tranny, will it work.........

Hi! I've been searching for a good cheap 727 for a 360. Well, come to find out, one of my college buddies has one, but is for a big block. My question is, can u unbolt the big block bellhousing, and bolt up that tranny to a small block bellhousing??? If so, my search is over, but if not, oh well. Anyways, any info would be helpful!

The 727 case and bellhousing are a single piece casting, the bellhousing is not removable. Only a small block 727 will mate to your 360.

Ok, thanx, thats what I needed to know! For now, I have a 904 lined up for the 360, but will continue the search for a 727. Thanx again!

Default 727

I lucked out when looking for a727 for my 360.I found a old Dodge motorhome in a wrecking yard with a727 in it.This tranny had the 4 pinion planetaries and was rebuilt with heavy duty bands and clutches. So if you find an old motorhome being parted out take a look, this tranny was only 50 bucks!

Check any fullsize vans you find in the wrecking yards too. I think most, if not all, smallblock vans had the 727 in them.

My '86 Ram van has a 318 with a 904. Any 360 car or truck should have the 727 though.

my '72 roadrunner has a 727 HD in it, and my brothers '71 sattellite has a 727 as well, i have a 340, he has a 440, i'm pretty sure they can be swapped even though he has a BB and i have a SB....they have both been tore out at the same time and the only diff we saw was he had the kickdown linkage, and i had a vice grip ni-tied back for constant high pressure....

The big block and small block have entirely different bellhousing bolt patterns. Look closely at the pic and the difference will be obvious. The big block is on the right.
