Default New rotors already?

My mother has 29K on her 2K durango. She took it for an oil change and tire rotoation. The dealership told her she needed new rotors. $87 per rotor plus labor. It seems to me the rotors should last longer than 29K if you ask me.

Dodge brakes suck! I have had my rotors turned once and they warped again in less than 9 months. I then got slotted rotors and new pads. They are already slightly warped less than a year later. My grandma even had to have her's replaced on her Grand Caravan.

I had the rotors on my ram resurfaced and all the pads replaced with only 22K on my truck. If you want to talk about lousy brakes drive a ram sometime. Very spongy pedal feel. The next rotors on my truck will be cross drilled. Hopefully that will help the beast stop better.

the rotors are too small for trucks that weigh as much as a D or a Ram. If you look sometime, Camaro's have bigger disks up front than we do. More surface area dissapates heat much better and prevents warping.

Default Powerslot rotors.

Wouldn't suprize me if she did need new rotors.
Ask Glenn at golfinglenn@attbi.com about the power slot rotors for $79 each very good quality and better than stock, also cheaper. If your doing the rotors get the Raybestos QS pads for her also. I have the pads but don't have them on yet. Stock/mopar repalcement rotors very poor quality IMO.

I got the powerslot rotors and Raybesto's brute stop brakes and they didn't help a bit. It stopped better for the first month and then it was back to normal. The pads are noisy and leave a lot of brake dust. The rotors are already on their way to being warped as well. I don't know if you can turn them either.

That's what I've heard about the brute stop one's.
Get the QS (quiet stop). They don't leave the dust and are quiet.
From what I've heard anyway I guess well see I have the QS ones to put on.

Has anyone thought about swapping out their brakes, like getting a disc conversion from stainless steel brakes. Also, do any of you have the extended warranty? Couldn't this qualify for that?

No warrenty. It is considered a wear item.

360,
I hope they work better for you too.

Cool stillen rotors

I just ordered the stillen cross drilled rotors from speedtweaks, I got new pads from them as well. I should have them by Monday, hopefully they'll be an improvement.

Warped rotors even at 10k miles doesn't seem to be unusual. We have concluded that the problem may not be the rotors but rather the hub. Have you tried having the rotors turned while they are on the vehicle. We have done this on many vehicles and it seems to help a great deal.

Send you new rotors to be cryogenically treated. Here are some websites. SCCA racers do this and it works.

www.300below.com
www.onecryo.com

Race teams report treated rotors let them compete in longer races on shorter tracks:

"The...rotors are in a word - AMAZING! The customer's production based road race car was EATING BRAKE ROTORS and PADS. Not only did the...treated rotors easily last all weekend, but there was still brake pad left - almost 40 percent" - Road Racing Team

"Our fleet mechanic reports that the rotors are showing none of the warpage or heat cracks encountered with non-treated rotors!...The life of the brake rotor has increased by over 3 1/2 times that of an untreated rotor" - Ambulance Company

"In ongoing tests, a State Police program reports DURALIFE treated rotors had triple the life and showed no signs of warpage or cracking - with the tests still going" - State Police Testing Program

Cool stillen rotors

2001 Durango R/T,
Speedtweaks also carries a rear disc conversion kit but I don't know if they have any upgrades for the drums themselves. the kit is pretty pricy thought, something like 2 or 3 grand.

Rob94hawk,
what does treating the rotors do?

Post Worked for my brother

My brother has had a problem with his front disk brakes. He would wash his rims and after a short drive they would already be covered in brake dust. And the brakes would wear out only after 5000 - 8000 miles. This happened about 3 times. Luckly he only had to pay for the first fix, rest were on warranty. But that never fixed it, so they replaced everything to do with the front brakes. Worked okay for 7000, and it happened agian the brake pads were gone and the rotors trashed. So he brought it in agian and they decided to redo the back drums. So far, on the front theres normal dust build up and the brakes are working great. So having the back check might not hurt.

Hay Guyz.........the calipers are hanging up.

Try a coast down test after say 1 mile or so after you apply the brakes.....if the rotors are tooo hot to touch GET some new calipers.

I have got a 98 3500 and 94 2500 - NO brake problems whatsoever.
