i'm confused
Hey guys,
I have a Alpine MRV-100M monaural 2/1 chanel amp. both channels are mono. the input is stereo. does this mean the output on each mono channel will have both left and right channels? I am using 2 JL 8W0-4 subs. The amp specs for power output are (@14.4V): mono into 4 ohms - 150W bridged into 2 ohms - 300W Is it 150W per channel in mono or 75Wx2? the specs say nothing about wattage for each channel just mono into 4 ohms and both channels are mono.. and on the box it says 300Wx1ch max (2 ohm 14.4V) and 150Wx1ch RMS 14.4V (4 ohms). so now I'm confused. Would I be better off putting one 4 ohm sub on each channel or putting the two 4 ohms sub in parallel (2 ohms) and bridged? thanx |

All the info I have found on the amp say it is a mono amp. I don't know why it would have two sets of speaker outputs if it is a mono amp.
Your best bet is to wire the subs in parallel. |

This is the info I found on this amp
MAX POWER (EIAJ) 240W x 1 (4 Ohm) 300W x 1 (2 Ohm) FEATURES RMS Cont. Power (Watt) (at 12.0V, 20-20 kHz) 4 Ohm (0.08% THD) 100W x 1 2 Ohm (0.3% THD) 150W x 1 RMS Continuous Power (Watt) (at 14.4V, 20-20kHz) 4 Ohm (0.08% THD) 150W x 1 2 Ohm (0.3% THD) 200W x 1 S/N Ratio 100 dBA Frequency Response (+0, -3dB) 20-200Hz 24 dB LP Crossover Variable (50-200Hz) 1 Channel Operation MOSFET Power Supply DC-DC PWM Power Supply Double Buffered Pre-Amp Input Circuitry Discrete Pre-Amp Stage Darlington Bi-Polar Outputs DC Straight Design STAR Circuitry Duo (Beta) Feedback Circuit Solid Copper Bus Bars Auto Overcurrent Protection MultiMode Low Impedance Drive Capability Top Mounted LED Power Indicator Adjustable Crossover (LP) Subsonic Filter Continuously Adjustable Gain Control Bass EQ Circuit Phase Selector One side Terminal Layout Gold Plated RCA Input Connectors Speaker Level Inputs Gold Plated Power Insert Terminals Gold Plated Speaker Screw Terminals Noise Elimination Coil If I understand your question - You need the two L/R inputs to create all the sounds. The amp combines the L/R inputs and creates a single mono output. The specs just tell you how you can hook up various loads. (what the amp can handle) It is 2-ohm stable so I would hook up two 4-ohm speakers in parallel to give the amp its max load. Give it some room to breathe so it does not eat itself. |

Another Thought
Are you sure the two inputs are not in fact an input and an output? This configuration would allow you to daisy chain amplifiers without having to run more cables from the head unit.
Do you actually have two outputs? According to the info I uncovered you should only have one. Just some thoughts |

Thanks for the reply.. the parallel/bridged hook up was what I was thinking too.
The amp has a stereo input which is combined for the mono output. Usually stereo amp's have pre-outs for daisy chaining.. but this one doesn't. As far as I can tell. It has 2 speaker outputs which is what has been confusing me. which looks like this: mono | mono (-)(+)|(-)(+) I found the manual on it which can be sound here: http://www.mybellybuttonsmells.com/mrv100m.pdf This is the first time I have ever come across an amp like this, which is why I'm a little lost |

Maybe they are just trying to make it easier to run it in parallel?

my soundstream 5 channel has that set up for the subs
easy to hook up 2 subs anyways |
