Question Engine Compartment Paint

Now that I have my motor out I was looking at painting the engine bay now that I have access to everything. My question is about paint. Will I need to use a high temp paint because the compartment walls are next to a hot motor, or will regular spray paint withstand the temp without bursting into flames? I would really hate to fry my car . Normally I would just go with high temp paint to be on the safe side, but there aren't as many colors available. Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Matt

Regular paint that the factory used for the body is used for the engine compartment. Heat will flake it off if you spray the can paint over the factory paint. Even if you clean the crap out of it.
I used regular Krylon flat black that lasted only a few years.
Fire is not a concern. Paint longjevity is.

Default Thanks

Alright, I am glad to hear that. So then would my assumption be correct that for longevity it would be best to get down to bare metal and use a primer under a normal coat of paint. That is going to be a lot of work. Oh well, I don't know when the next time I will have this kind of access will be, so I guess it's time to get the elbow grease out. Thanks again.

Normal paint that was used from the factory (Type that is) Spray cans are cheap and it will show as such. Take time to find a quality paint and primer like PPG stuff.
