Default Crap

You've just confirmed my worst fear. I just bought a new Ram and want to change out the radio, but haven't had a chance to take the dash off. Assuming you have, how exactly do you get the radio out?? Does the center black panel just pull out around the radio or is there more involved?? I'm also interested if anyone has any info about a company that makes a wiring harness.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

Default wiring?

is yours a dak or a ram? on the ram take the screw out of the hook on the pass. side of the dash, take the cover off under the steering wheel, the rest around the radio just pops off pretty easy, then the radio itself is held in with 4 screws, the plug on the back is 1 plug with all the pins, instead of two plugs
By the way, I forgot to mention that the two a/c outlets come off with the radio cover, so don't freak out when that happens.

Default harness

well guys, I went by the dealership and the parts guy said no one makes an adapter to do that , so I figured I would get a tech. to give me a copy of the wiring diagram, but he said" why? we just go up front and get an adapter! " I said they said they didn't make one, so he took me up front to parts, walked right to the back and brought one to me, it cost 20.18 . the parts guy said " I didn't know we had those!" anyway, I now have a 2001 am/fm/cd from chrys. in my 2002 ram.so, check with the make ready tech's if you have any questions about this kinda stuff!
also, it has the ant. adapter in the kit!

Default Wiring

hammer, mine is a Ram. I can't get moparchat to let me change my name just yet.

I was wondering if your Ram has the premium infinity system with the speakers in the dash or if it just has the ones in the doors? I have the premium system and was wondering how it would perform with an aftermarket head unit. I assume everything would work OK as far as connections because it appears that the dash speakers are simply crossed-over so that the ones in the doors get all the bass. I'll have to try it and let you know how it sounds.

P.s. - I'm getting the new Pioneer DEH-7400MP if Best Buy ever gets it in!

Thanks for the advice on the harnesses!

Default radio

glad I could be of such little help, LOL , but no, I have the regular old run of the mill am/fm/cd from chrysler from a 2001 dak, curtesy? of Matt from the Dallas mopar club, one of these days I'll get with him and pay him the other 30. bucks I owe him , anyway, it gets loud enough for this old fart to rock to the 'bone with, that is all I need, would rather make it go faster, hehe

Default speaker swap

I have a 2002 reg cab. I want to keep my stock
radio in, but I want to change out the speakers.
Is the grill on the door panel a real grill, or
do you have to remove the entire door panel. And
what about the back how does it come off? Any
suggestions on what size and type of speaker works
best in the front and rear. If I add 3-ways will
I need an amp? Thank for any input.

2002 Dodge Ram takes a 6 1/2 speaker in front and back, this size is very common. To install these the entire panel comes off but straight forward. For more info, a good site to check is "crutchfield.com" they have a full data base of install info. Their prices are standard but their service is excellant and they provide all of the kits and wiring adapters free with a purchase. Plus specific instructions with pixs..

I would appreciate that, went to the local dealer today on a chance they would know what I wanted and they did not have a clue, even tried to tell me that there was no radio or antenna wiring changes.

Default adapter kit

ok here is the part # for the kit I got, it allows a pre-2002 radio to fit a 2002, which means a 7-pin will convert to the 22 pin 2002. the # is 82207523, if they can't find it , let me know and I will get one and send it to you

Thanks, I am sure a larger dealer in the city will be able to locate one, just the one horse town dealer whose owners son runs the parts dept lacks a whole lot of intelligence.

This is just to clarify some previous posts in this thread. On the 2002's the front speakers are 6X9 and in the back they are 5 1/4's. I just finished replacing my stock one's with Polk Audio 3-ways all around. Man what a difference.
