Default 75 Duster

i have a chance to buy one that has been built quite a bit.

383 with cam, headers, (dont know a lot about the motor), 3.23 8 3/4 rear, 'big' hood scoop (haven't seen it yet), and a 4spd manual tranny. What kind of times would this run in the 1/4?

Does anyone have any pictures of a car like this? I guess the bumpers were replaced with a 71 or 72 dusters. What would this car be worth, its supposed to be show quality condition.

Thanks

You surpply no info on this car other than its a 383. How fast it can go? Your guess is as good as any at this point. It has a cam? Theres a million to guess from. Hood scoop? My Cuda came with 2. Stock times with a 323 were something like 15's.

See what I'm saying. As far as worth goes. As much as someones willing to pay. When the Muscle car era cars went crazy on prices, how many people were paying a $100,000 for a Hemi Cuda? Not ME! I really like the big block A body idea. I guess a mint one is worth anywhere between 6,000- and 16,00 dollors.

I wish I knew more about the motor. Figure it as a stock 325hp 383 with header and mild cam. Thats about all i know . Did the duster COME with a 383 stock??! I thought they only had up to a 340... or maybe I'm gettin it crossed with a dart

Guy is asking 7500 for it and claims it is a showpiece. The body has 75000 miles on it.

well, the Duster had the base /6 with a 318 then 340 as max cid until '74 when the 360 replaced the 340. Never did a Duster come with a big block stock. They should have though!
The deal sounds good if it's truly a show car. If it makes you drool and it's good in and out....drive it for a while. Make sure it's stone cold before you turn it on. Check oil and rad. fluid.
This is a screamin combo.

Take a real close look at the body to see how much if any has been replaced. Run your hand under the rearmost part of the quarter pannels to feel for 2 tabs that were from the factory. There should also be some in the inner fender. Run your hand inside the rear wheel openings for these tabs. Take a good look under the car for replaced floors or trunk sections and also the torsion bar mounts to the frame. Check the tops of the fenders around the antenna on both sides and also the bottom of the doors looking at them from the inside (jamb side). These places I mentioned are all places where these cars rust mostly depending where the car is from. I have found many "nice" Darts and Dusters that had everything replaced and some were quite obvious. If it looks good and runs good I would pay up to $7 for it. I found my first Dart for $2800 and the other one for $1000 that needs some work but is very doable and original/clean. Just my rambling.

I have a 440 in my duster with a edelbrock cam and headers. I have been running this with 2.76 gears (switching to 3.55 posi) and it goes like a bat out of hell! I think the 383 would be a good combo but I cant say how fast it would go. I had rust problems by the rear spring shackels, the frame sections on the back by the bumper and the frame drivers side behind the front wheel. Just some places to check too. Also with the mods thet were done to this check that it was done right. It should have a good rear axle not the 7 1/4(9 bolts on the cover), and disc brakes in the front and a BIG radiator!

Interesting. You will need to put frame connectors in if it does not have them now. My '75 has a 340 with a 4 speed and it is flexing the frame. It has no connectors. The bumpers the previous owner put on weigh less. The factory ;75 bumpers were heavy and had the 5 mph shocks behind them. If it does not have it, get the 26" 3 core radiator. Put good shocks on it. I have oversized KYB's that work well. 200 psi of N2 gas keep the front end level. That heavy motor will cause the front of the car to push in corners. Torsion bars? which ones does it have? Pinion snubber? Have fun terrorizing the neighborhood.

I'll say a 13.25 with 3.23 gears for the 383 four speed car. My Dad's 2950 pound '72 Duster with 325 HP 340 ran a best of 13.15 last fall, and it is one of the faster 3.23 geared street cars I've seen. With some tire spin, 4 speed drop off in ET, and a heavier car I come up with the 13.25, even with the slightly more HP of the 383.

70-72 Duster front bumpers are not really interchangable with 73-76, since it is a totally different design and shape, unless the entire front end has been switched over as well, including fenders, hood and grills (we currently talking about this in another post).

the car does have the 8 3/4 rear end so thats good! i think I can get the guy down to 7000 for it, but I have to see the car before I say any price. The guy said it is a GREAT daily driver with a lot of power . The owner also has receipts showings its been port and polished and bored .030 over.

If I bought it... I'd definetly put a stroker crank into it (really want to do one...) because I know the motor is good (its the 325hp 383). How can I check to see what year the motor is?

Thanks!
