I would never get rid of a Duster just 'cause of a "tick". What kind of ticking are you talking about?

some things to think about before you sell a car just because of a tick:

have you checked the lifters? maybe they are supposed to tick... a lifter could have gotten clogged and decided not to pump up and work properly (if hydraulic)

have you checked your header or exhaust manifold gasket? have you checked the bolts on the headers or exhaust manifold?

hey, heres a no-brainer....have you checked to make sure the sparkplugs are all tight? (that happened to my brother on his 440) maybe a seal went out or somthin.

also, check your pushrods, maybe one got bent somehow... if all else fails, have someone else look at it but FOR GODS SAKE MAN! DON'T GET RID OF A MOPAR!!!!

its ET TU BRUTE.....and yes, i did read your last post. if my advice doesn't help Desert465 then i wouldn't care if he sold it or not....but if it does help then he should keep it. i'm just tryin to help him keep a car that could possibly be worth a lot if it runs good and looks good. especially if it has original parts on it...

3 Bolt,
I'm with you on wanting another Duster in the garage next to this one. I would love it if I were a bit closer. We still haven't heard from Desert465 on this. I guess he's on the fence about it. I get your sense of humor, I thought it was funny. When are you gonna email me with pics and specs on your Duster so I can post them on my website?? Put you right next to cuda66273, bbeckwith, or dartman360.

I know on a small block probably big block two if you get your left and right rockers mixed up they will tick till no towmarrow! Also pull you valve covers while running and make sure you see oil flying on both sides!

Ok guys, I am starting to feel a little better now and I think I can discuss it. It’s funny how you can get more frustrated and worried about your Mopar than your marriage.

You can search on Desert465 for all the problems, they would be to long to try and put on this post, but in a nutshell my beloved is a 72 Duster with a 68 318. The car I acquired for $125.00 and the Motor was $200.00, my first mistake was getting the motor from a guy at work that has since been laid off and I have no way of getting in touch with him. He claimed that the motor ran fine before he removed it from his car about 5 years ago and only had about 3000 miles on it since the rebuild; I know I know you want to sell me some swampland in Florida.
So then I preceded to spend the next 1 ½ years fixing up the car, removed the dusted /6, striped front end and used polly bushings and put 73 Duster discs on, stripped all parts and repainted (God it looks good), striped and repainted engine compartment and put the newly painted motor in.
Primed and started, TICK TICK TICK TICK. Then spent the next six months trying to find the problem (again you will need to see all my post).
This past weekend (The day I did this post) I thought I would change the oil and found some shinny pieces of metal in the oil, I kind of suspect a bearing or something along that line.
I am sure some of you guys can relate but after two years and still nothing to show for it I was frustrated.
In a perfect world I would have had the funds to get a motor built and all would have been good, but that was just not in the cards. So for now I will park it at the side of the house and someday I will find another motor. Some of you are probably saying why not just pull the motor and fix it? I would not have the technical ability to fix it correctly, I would like to try but I figure that I would spend all that cash on new parts and I would just put something together incorrectly and I would be right back where I started.

Thanks for all the offers to buy the car; my wife said she would kill me if I ever got rid of it (I’m such a lucky gu

hey, 3bolt, i knew you were kiddin and i also knew desert wouldn't get rid of a duster because of a tick....i wasn't mad or whatever or anything, just tellin desert not to sell the car (in case he went crazy and actually did it or somthin) because as soon as he did, he would have thought of the problem.

also, destert, your a very lucky man to be married to someone that says DON'T get rid of a mopar. My mom always tells me to get a ford (which SUCK). hey, you got a nice lookin motor in that thing. go get some hose sleeves and it could look somthin like mine (only mines yellow and black)

Every used motor ever put up for sale has 3000 miles on it????..It's just a fact of life..

You talkin about my car? that 12.468/107.38 MPH 318 Cuda???

Thanks Guy's!

Gotta go to work ...makin' some nice new signs for the Booster Club Shack at the track(donation) ....now if I could just find a sign job that actually pay's cash money.....I could put a little more Hot in that old Hot Rod...maybe 11.99?

I startin' to think I have already exceeded the speed of my wallet?
