Default Spring Fling '02

Was there today nice and early. I got there at 8:15, and it was in full FLING. Since the gates opened at 8:00, I dont know where all the people came from. The lot was packed. Did mostly part hunting today, saw some good buys: a 383/400 polished tunnel ram base for 25.00, numerous clean TQ's for 25.00, and 2 pass 5.33 gears for 25.00, wow, that is 100 bucks right there! And a few pricey things: The BB A-body manifolds for 600, and a basket 66 Dart convertible for 7500. How about 308 heads for 35 bucks a piece, and 2 brand new 295/15 BFG's for 35.00! Like I said, quite a few bargains out there. Good 340 manifolds are STILL 400. My friend bought a new Hurst quarter stick with the trick aluminum pistol grip looking handle with cable and a B&M trans cooler for 100. I passed on a set of 15xWIDE rallyes with tires for 35.00 because one was bent (at the center) Oh well, maybe next time. Maybe Ill start to save for the Thorley 64-66 A-body No cut headers Doug had for sale..only $900.00, or the hear it run '68 340 on a test stand for $2000....wait, I already have one of those! Someone tell me how the trailer queens look tomorrow, I have to miss that day.

Oh, forgot to mention a 4.00 rough bore 340 X block, race stuff since there were no motor mount ears on the block, all the lifter bores were bushed (looks like they changed the angle on them) set up for dry sump. 4 bolt splayed mains and all the casting numbers milled off (?) Had a big X cast on the front and back of the block hence the name. $200.00. the guy was clueless to what he had, I said "someone is going to jump on that once he realizes what it is.." I didnt.

Default Man I wanted to go!

I am bummed that I missed it. I couldn't convince any of my roommates to make the 2 1/2 hour trip to go. Sounds like there was some really good stuff this year. I am vowing to go next year. I hope everyone is enjoying themselves.

pishta, did you get a business card or remember the name of the suspension people that were at the car show end of the swap section about in the middle, like behind the main trophy tent and across from Bob Riggle and the Hemi Under Glass?? I think they were the only suspension company there. I got a card fron them but now I can't find it. I spent all of Saturday trying to decipher the differences on the 66 B body front swaybar set up, then I go to this vendor and he shows me the exact parts the he has for the fix and now I've gone and lost his #%$@#^$^&$#^^%# card!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm putting an update on my "PST bar on a 66 B-Body" thread for what I've found so far. Anybody that was at Spring Fling please help if you can..........web address is fine also

Mauve 66, check with www.cpw.com. This is the club that puts the show together. If you get a hold of some of the guys in charge, they'd tell you who that vendor was. I walked by, but since I just took care of all my suspension needs at Firm Feel inc a few days ago, i didn't bother with them.

Pista,

Are the original 340 intakes worth $400? If they are, I'll have to take the one that came on my '72 to the Fall Fling! Or trade it for a decent carb for my new engine. Also is there a market for the original spare that came on my car?

One of the bad things about the show was parking next to a Line Green Dart Sport w/440 in it, now all I have to do is to convince the wife that the new engine I put in last month NEEDS to be replaced, and not get killed for the idea!

Hey G,
How doya think I got the tunnel ram past the mrs.??? I'm hoping DusterBob or maybe 7T2Fish got the stuff I'm looking for out there. How 'bout Maxwedge, haven't heard from him for awhile. I know he's out there.

Hey Greg,

What parts are you looking for?

Too bad you weren't out here to go to the Spring Fling. I was parked next to an original numbers matching Mr Norms 68 Dart GSS 440, Black w/red rear stripes. Damn, I really need a 440 or maybe a 426, all the really nice a-bodies had big blocks! My 420hp small block was kinda anemic next to them.

At last years Fall fling, I was in Hemi row. It was almost unfair they put me there! I did feel better when I saw the other '65 there , it had a trailer hitch!

Cool

gthomas,

Not all the nice A-bodies had big blocks. I saw some really nice and fast small block powered A-bodies at the show this past weekend. On Sunday I remember seeing a couple of really nice A-bodies that were small block powered. One was a blue 10 second 71 Demon and next to it was a 11 second red 68' Valiant. The guy with the Demon drove it to the show from Rancho Cucamonga. Not sure about the Valiant. Of course this is just my opinion.

Are you positive the price was not $40.00 for the 340 intake? there were several at the 01 fling and I sold mine for $50.00 because that was the selling price of the others. To pay $400.00 for an old intake when the Perforner RPM, stealth and comparable intakes are around $200.00 begs a question. The 02 Fling was excellent with a goodparts section and fantastic cars on display, will be there Fall 02 and Spring 03.

Never said intake manifolds! Im talking exhaust manifolds here, the ones from 68-71 340 A-bodies. I got 50.00 for my cast iron 340 intake at fall fling 2000 too!

hey I was looking at the club show page and it listed more cars on Sunday for the 2001 show than on Saturday. I didn't stay for Sunday this year, is it normal for more cars to show up on Sunday??? All of the small shows I've been to half the cars are gone by noon on Sunday, maybe if I had stayed I'd of seen something closer to mine........
